My son was at Brandon’s apartment last week. He is still in school here. He did quit football to spend more time with his family before he joins the Navy Seals. He said once he does that he won’t see his family much at all. Good luck to him in his future service to our nation.

Nothing but thanks and admiration for this young man as he takes this dangerous and courageous path.

Just to be clear, you don't join the Navy Seals. You join the Navy and then you attempt to earn a spot with the Navy Seals.

That is the truth. Very few that try make it. I know two local boys that have tried in the last couple of years and ended up tapping out at some time in the process. However, one must be admired for having the courage to even try.

Big time! Regardless this young man feels a need to answer a different calling than football. Godspeed.

Have a younger second cousin that washed out of BUD/S last year. If that kid didn't make it, I'm scared of the badasses that do.

The two that I know were the same. That process is a grueling as it gets. Those that make it are at a different level of badass.

It’s not the physical aspect of BUDS/Q-Course/Ranger School or any other specialized combat qualification course that gets people to wash out. Everyone reaches a physical limit that mentally they can’t overcome. The ones who make it through are the most mentally resilient. Their unwillingness to let physical pain and failure stop them from completing the task at hand.

I’d tap out of BUDS the first time they would make me get into the Pacific Ocean past knee deep. It is too damn cold for that.

Just STANDING by that water is enough for me. That wind is freaking cold. Much respect to those guys.

You are correct! I still work closely with folks who run AF spec ops courses. Pararescue has an 80-90% washout rate! All these type programs are extremely grueling, both physically and mentally. Props to anyone who even tries.
