I believe, with the exception of Thomas, all were Sr QBs as well, with significant starting experience before their Senior years or Junior year, in Thomas' case.
Your point brings to mind one of my favorite football debates. "How similar does a team's quarterbacks need to be for team success?" This is more of a question around style of offense, not necessarily experience. Obviously, an option QB won't fit into a Mike Leach offense, but hopefully you get the idea.
Just in Ragin Cajun history, I can think of:
Mitchell and Pannell
Desormeaux vs Babb
Gautier vs Masson
Obviously, it is never good if a starter is injured, but it seems like you would want a more consistent set of skills in the QB room.
Dan Marino pitched in HS and was a fourth round draft pick. He did not pitch in college, however.
Yes, the list of HS QB's and starting pitchers is long and distinguished, but even that is diminishing with sport specialization beginning earlier and earlier now.
who? lol haha y’all are killing it in recruiting lol
I like a diverse quarterback room. It stretches the imagination of the entire offensive coaching staff. When you see the skills sets of young players developing at practice, you design to fit those capabilities. Napier and Sale like to attack; they like to stress a defense to the point of breaking. The more ways they have to do that, the happier they are.
Herring chose the Ragin Cajuns over several in-state schools, including Louisiana Tech. Previously, he had an offer to play baseball for ULM.
