This guy is the real deal! He will be our starting QB one day. Great pickup.

I realize one statement had nothing to do with the other, but its just something that caught my attention. I tend to prefer a guy that runs well along with being a good passer. Herring looks like he can do both with over 1,000 yards and 25 TDs rushing last season.

Coach Napier seems to being doing a really good job recruiting QBs. Hopefully what these guys have done in HS translates to college
I get what you are saying most Qbs now days can do a bit of everthing and we don't need a guy with concrete shoes back there. But if you look at the past few P5 wins for the belt they all have 1 thing in common a big pro-style QB .. Brandon Silvers, Pete Thomas, Dan Ellington, Zac Thomas (shorter side but still a drop back passer)

I think Thomas clearly has no concrete in his cleated shoes

AM is my favorite athlete of all time, however, both college baseball and football are light years different from the Archie's playing days.

Kyler Murray is a much more apt comparison recently.

Anyone know if Herring is a pitcher? My recollection is the vast majority of two way players in college were non-pitchers. The only one I can recall is Jameis Winston.

My specific worry is wear and tear on the throwing shoulder/arm of a QB and starting pitcher in college.

18 TDs in three rounds of playoffs?

I trust coach Napier to do whatever is best for his players now and their future. He’s a real solid man who happens to be a great football coach.

Nice pickup, I like that he says he was working hard for the UL offer. He really wants to be here. He has great size, he will get many more offers, you can count on it.
Napier is doing a good job on the QB’s we are getting. I think when Coley from the San Antonio area committed to Arkansas, that opened up room for Hunter.

Agree, I trust both Coach Napier and Coach Deggs. Outside of Winston, are there any examples of college QB's, that also pitched in college?

    Yes, a good pitching prospect.

I believe, with the exception of Thomas, all were Sr QBs as well, with significant starting experience before their Senior years or Junior year, in Thomas' case.

Your point brings to mind one of my favorite football debates. "How similar does a team's quarterbacks need to be for team success?" This is more of a question around style of offense, not necessarily experience. Obviously, an option QB won't fit into a Mike Leach offense, but hopefully you get the idea.

Just in Ragin Cajun history, I can think of:

    Mitchell and Pannell
    Desormeaux vs Babb
    Gautier vs Masson

Obviously, it is never good if a starter is injured, but it seems like you would want a more consistent set of skills in the QB room.

    Lewis vs Lewis.

Dan Marino pitched in HS and was a fourth round draft pick. He did not pitch in college, however.
