Highlights of what I heard from Scott's show today;
Coach Napier-Pretty much anything of interest was covered in today's newspaper coverage in the local papers. Most significant thing to me was the meeting between team and law enforcement officials occurred last night which was after the interview. I would like to hear more of what came out of that meeting. As far as football is concerned, they are not thinking of anything beyond the guidelines they have been given for June operations. Sometime next week they will get pointers on what July will involve. He is not yet thinking on the details of what the actual season will entail or conference realignment.
Coach Marlin- Players return late June and begin voluntary workouts July 1. Fully expect Mississippi State transfer Devin Butts to be eligible. Others transfers eligibility is still unknown. He would not comment on the Cal transfer named Gordon which I take to mean he is still not signed. He did say he would be willing to talk to Scott at a later date on him. They are still recruiting as you never know what will happen with the portal situation. They told Javone Lowery it may be in his best interest to enter the portal. My interpretation of that is he would have limited playing time with the signing of the JUCO guy named Au and expectation Butts is eligible. Tyrus Smith underwent two surgeries in May and wants to sit out all of next year to fully recover. I have no idea what was involved in those surgeries. He may have difficulty finding a place to pay for two years of a scholarship and only one year of playing time. Finally, the schedule has been finalized and is only waiting on the final approval of Dr. Maggard to be made public. That is expected to be a formality.
Dr. Maggard-90 percent sure a football season will occur. Football season ticket renewals are above 60 percent. Some new people are buying tickets since they went on sale to the general public. Granted that is slow traffic but there is some. He does not foresee a CUSA-SBC merger anytime soon but conversations on more regional aspects to non conference scheduling continue. Like Coach Napier that is not his focus at this time. Most of the public will not see the things they are doing to cut costs and travel is one of those. Of course plane flights are to be minimized. I think I heard him say people traveling on trips will be limited. That means family members of staff and coaches may no longer be accompanying the team. Later I was told that the team will not likely stay at a hotel the night before a football home game. That could be a substantial savings. Also, trips to movie theaters on the road may be limited.
If anyone else heard these interviews, please clarify my comments if I did not state something correctly. Also, feel free to add anything I may have missed.
