New Orleans Bowl now gets second pick of Sun Belt representative under new 6-year deal

Ever since the New Orleans Bowl began in 2001, it has had first dibs on what team from the Sun Belt Conference would be making the trip to the Big Easy.

    That will change this season

would you consider this scenario a failure of a season?

Considering the writer had TWO Lending Tree Bowl predictions, I'll file this under flush.

LendingTree Mobile Alabama Bowl Kent State vs. Louisiana

LendingTree Bowl Ohio vs. Georgia Southern

    What a donkey.

If it means a championship, no!

Failure, no. Disappointment not winning the SBC, yes. Not saying this is gonna happen, but conceivably, Napier could go 12-0 and then lose to App State in the SBC Title game, and we wind up in the Lending Tree.

No way I would say that 13-1 or 12-2 is a failure, but it could still be disappointing, if it plays out something like that.

Nothing to worry about folks. We’re going to the NY6 slot. Foregone conclusion.

And I guess if we don’t, we should riot?

  10. UL Football Sun Belt finalizes bowl tie-in lineup through 2026

The Sun Belt Conference announced its new bowl lineup Thursday for the next six seasons.

The conference has five bowl tie-ins, including annual participation in the New Orleans Bowl and LendingTree Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

"We are coming off of our most successful season in Sun Belt history," Sun Belt commissioner Keith Gill said in a statement. "We're excited to provide a flex model that allows for our fans and schools to go to desirable locations with exciting opponents that are easily accessible and provides more revenue than the previous bowl cycle."

ESPN Events will hold the first, third and fourth selections and will use a flex model to select teams into the following games: Boca Raton Bowl, Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama; Cure Bowl in Orlando, Florida; Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise; First Responder Bowl in Dallas; Frisco Bowl in Texas; the Myrtle Beach Bowl in South Carolina; and the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque.

The New Orleans Bowl will hold the second selection, and the LendingTree Bowl will hold the fifth selection.

In addition to the bowl tie-ins, the Sun Belt champion has access annually to the New Year's Six bowls, managed by the College Football Playoff, should the champion be selected as one of the top four teams overall by the CFP selection committee or be ranked as the top champion among the Group of Five conference champions.

This doesn’t sound like a good move for the SBC long run.

I guess we'll see. I think, at first glance, I'm going to like it. ESPN is going to be able to take the champion (in most years, anyway) and provide a solid matchup in a good location for fans.

And, if we don't win the title, New Orleans will be waiting.

Win the title and welcome to the music bowl, or who knows where?

Weren’t you one those who kept telling everyone that the NOLA was best for us outside of one of the New Years day bowl. I’m sure we’re never getting the next stage down as those are reserved for the P5.

Finally I’ve zero confidence in our current commissioner. He makes Wrong Way Waters look like a Mensa candidate.

I said that and it still holds true when you talk about attendance. But there are also many who perceive that there are "better" bowls.

The champion will get a tough test somewhere. I think Frisco and Dallas would both be good destinations for fans. But anytime we don't win the title, we are probably headed to NO and since it's the second pick, people can't _____ about it.

I'm glad Lending Tree gets the fifth pick. I liked Mobile as a destination but the bowl people were far from being the nicest, or most competent, that I've ever been around.

Will the Lending Tree Bowl move to USA's new stadium? Ladd-Peebles seems old and outdated.
