You're right. Really surprised. The media normally does not announce it until it is "official". I guess they're getting tired of being scooped on sites like this. Usually, by the time they report it, it's old news. Probably getting tired of looking like they're not doing their job and are lazy. This ain't 1985 where the major source of local sports news was the six o'clock and ten o'clock sports casts. Those four minute segments, if that long, are going the way of the dinosaur.
The media has a view of it's own, I heard it every time I broke a story on a commitment. It's not official until it's announced by the program and released by the media. This is how many view it when it comes to covering college athletics. Bottom line, some are too lazy to follow leads, make a few phone calls or actually contact an athlete through social media for a interview.
So I think these are two different things.
As I understand it, schools are not allowed to announce or talk about commitments. They can release official announcements once paperwork is in and approved. If media is waiting on that, they are never gonna report on commits then.
Student-athletes can announce their own commitments and the media can report on that.
I wouldn’t want to be the one to report a transfer before its official.
Let’s say a media source reports it and it doesn’t happen, then the media source would look even more foolish than reporting “a week” late. It looks like a no win situation for the media.
I think the “media” is doing a great job on reporting the facts about this program. Let’s remember the facts are important. I would prefer the media to report facts and not rumors. I am not a fan of #fakenews
I got you. Back in the day, they didn't have Twitter, they didn't have Facebook, they didn't have Instagram. When a player posts on their Twitter account they're transferring, I've got to believe them. If the media is waiting on an official announcement, and they report it three or four days after the player posts on Twitter, what's the use? It's already old news. If you notice, a couple of transfers ago, it was well-known the player was transfering because it was all over social media. The local reporters reported it about 4 days later, after it was "official". They didn't wait for the "official" announcement this time, because they know they're getting scooped. Looks like some of the local media has changed their mind and are not waiting till it's official.
