But you are right I will split it when I get a chance, I know he didn't mean anything by it.
He didn't mean anything derogatory with his comment, if he even said it. Not every word in quotes in a paper was actually said. He might have used the term "screwed" and Foote softened it.

I simply pointed out the ignorant use of the derogatory term as an example of behavior I personally find offensive. The comment is in a newspaper and fair game.

If one person learned something, which has been acknowledged, then good.

I’m just going to say it’s a phrase that isn’t really racist. It’s just an expression that they earned by their many con jobs at fairs, and home improvements. They’re in that group. Apparently it’s okay by leftist standards to refer to white privilege. We all know it’s about elite privilege. You get it if you achieve a certain level of success, right King James?

Gypped as in Gypsys. Good Lord. Not sure slurs help the draft stock. Hopefully misquoted.
No, in the proper context it means "stolen or cheated". There is nothing new in the use of this word. I would be more upset with a modern group of people in this country that refer to themselves as gypsies and their lifestyle.

The Gypsies were traveling capitalists and in person marketing specialists.

"Gypped" was a victimization term that deflected personal responsibility in your buying decisions.

Nowadays I need to work on not getting "Amazoned"

My experience to what is called the modern Gypsies in the US is limited. The show "American Gypsy" on National Geographic left me with a less than flattering view of some of these people. Many of them are involved in construction as independent contractors and unfortunately some have them have earned the mistrust of their lifestyle, especially those that have hired them to do work like roofing and sheet rock jobs.

Nonetheless, no one is referring to this group of people when using the term gypped. Hell, kids were using this term back in the 60's and 70's because you were taught not to use words like "screwed". If you weren't a child of those era's your wouldn't have a clue what I'm talking about. But in today's environment of oversensitivity and hyperbole, someone is bound to find offense with the use of the word.

As are the group the ‘Irish Travelers’ also are known to be conmen and do shoddy work.

I much rather hire locals I know to be good workers if I couldn’t afford a licensed roofing business. I’d never under any circumstances use people traveling into the area after a storm. Regardless if you hire people uninsured for workmen’s comp and general liability you leave yourself open to much bigger liabilities than you might think. Way beyond the cost of the project.

I am routinely called, and refer to myself, as a coonass. Does that make me racist against myself?
