A lot has changed since Milligan played with the rules for slappers. That's one of the reason Kendal Talley no longer slaps.Al is ost every D1 team in American is getting away from slappers due to the rule change.

What exactly changed?

Honestly curious. I remember when the 2020 Spring select season started, hearing some of the parents in the stands talking about a different rule for slappers. But since my kid is right handed, I didn’t really pay attention to the specifics.

Seems if it’s changing how D1 schools look at slappers, then there will be less demand for that skill set taught by private lesson instructors, but I currently still see it advertised a bunch on the area select pages.

Someone will know the exact rule, but the effect, that I have seen, is that it is now much easier to rule a slapper 'out of the box' and declare them out.

A few Florida Gators kids announced yesterday that they wasnt coming back, so kids all's all over are still weighing out there decisions.

Short version is both feet have to remain in box when contact is made,before one foot could be out of the box....There is two kids at STM that will be playing D3 softball because they are slappers even though they hit 440 plus. Milligan was a 3 year sec kid coming into UL, Lzard is a 1 1/3 year juco kid coming to UL, huge difference. Just because she hit 500 at juco doesn't translate to that at UL. She was a former track kid converted to softball, in my opinion she will not start and he greatest weapon will be pinch runner and maybe a late inning defensive replacement if her defensive is up to par.

Kids with speed who can't really hit will always want to slap, if they get on 1 out of 3 its better than 1 out of 5 if they cant hit.

The one positive review I saw was she can also hard slap which is very handy at keeping outfielder off balance.

Correct big difference in a power slapper versus a touch and go slapper...But she also had zero homeruns.

The leadoff hitter on my daughter’s team is a slapper, but once she has two strikes, she square up and hits straight on, but I think that’s what a lot of them do at this age (12U). I’ve notice that college slappers for the most part stick with the slapping approach regardless of the count.

Correct but it's a dying breed at the college level now.

I'd take someone who can hit a line drive to a shallow outfield and get a double or triple. It also makes them less likely to get pinch hit for with runners in scoring position.
