Because perhaps there are things we can do to make our program one of the better situations rather than the one with an excess of leaving players. I believe players come to programs with a large proportion of that decision being due to coaches and they also leave programs due to coaches and that is what is concerning me.

so the last 2 years whiffed on 5 players and we brought in out of what 7 or 8

Hud got fired for whiffing on 20% of his croots Marlin has almost tripled that

I think we need a coaching change too...but if I had to place a bet, even with a new coach, we can expect to have at least 2 guys per season enter the portal moving forward

Georgia State's new coach appears able to recruit.

Temple was a pretty unique situation. He had the opportunity to leave IUPUI after just being on campus for the summer because of the situation with the coach there. We happened to have an open scholarship even as the fall semester started. We really didn’t need another guard but the fact that Wesley was the only true PG and the opportunity arose he was brought in to provide PG depth about as last minute as possible as the fall semester had already started. I think once he was here he proved to be more of a combo guard type than originally thought and there was already depth there (as well as the lone signee). The scholarship would have gone unused (or maybe given to Aucoin) is the staff didn’t take tht last minute chance, but it didn’t pan out. Temple also played for 3 different high schools so now heading to his 3rd college in less than a year may be par for the course for him.

Coach Morris stated in his interview last week that as much as they want to still build a program, the reality in college basketball is that you now have to build teams annually. He also said the goal will always be to have a 2 deep squad with scholarships 1-10 and use scholarships 11-13 on developmental guys. I think losing some of those end of the bench scholarships to transfer is almost expected these days. Of course that doesn’t apply to Johnson.

Other than bodies, we didn't lose anything. Justin was the same role player at Detroit Mercy and Davis was off the roster at UT-Tyler by the new year. Can't say either program was a step up.

350 D-1 teams officially, with three more transistioning. 1,765 starters. Tens of thousands of guys thinking they are the next LeBron. Tens of thousands of butt hurt.

There’s always an excuse. Always the most positive hypothetical explanation when it comes to basketball.

Like I said on the RR Pod, between the social club and the propaganda machine, the program doesn’t stand a chance.

Maybe I’m missing something here, but losing 4-5 guys last season along with the 3-4 this year is a trend and shows concern of constant roster turnover. And no, I’m not trying to be negative. It’s just blatantly noticeable.

Imagine if Levi transferred, or Cantrelle?

You think people would be hypothesizing that they transferred to show “educational versatility”? Of course not. Most reasonable people would be asking what in holy eff is going on?

Most players finish their athletic eligibility before transferring for grad school AKA transfer their credits.

It’s all BS. We’ve been irrelevant in our OWN LEAGUE for 2 decades.

Maybe, maybe not. There are valid reasons why guys leave and its best for both parties. I've just got no confidence that Marlin and staff can recruit and retain as well as develop players and its frustrating that we can't do anything about it.
