Nice.
3* out of Macon, GA. 6'6 guard...love it..
Man, I miss Parrott covering UL sports. He was good. Thanks for breaking the good news.
He will have 3 years to play. Ranked #358 nationally and #40 combo guard in class of 2019 by 247.
That is 3 announcements with only 2 in the portal. So either Smith won’t be on scholarship or is gone unless someone else goes into the portal.
Smith will not be on scholarship. Also, he may not be eligible until first semester ends. As far as Butts is concerned, staff must have some confidence the rule allowing transfers to play immediately this season will pass. They have taken a risk on two scholarships for guys who may have to sit out in a critical year. Of course coaches don't always think like fans. They think they will win this year without those two. They will see it as their scout team just got stronger and they have helped their program long term. Don't know anything about the Butts personal situation but there is a chance the Portland transfer gets a waiver.

Liked his comments but....
This is a kid who probably would have been better off going to a mid major out of HS. Video I saw of him indicates he is mostly a shooter who was not strong enough to compete with the big bodies of the SEC on a regular basis. Down the road he may have been but we will see what kind of contribution he can make here. Even if he can't play this coming year, he can be the perimeter shooter that replaces Cedric Russell the following season
They can afford to have Butts sit, especially with Au coming in. There will be perimeter scoring even if there is an injury concern just as long as it is not as bad as last year. Akwuba will be needed, especially if Smith is not an option. They way coach Morris mentioned his “family emergency” and getting him back closer to home I’m sure there is something on the table to get him eligible even if the new rule doesn’t pass.
I think you are right especially considering how the NCAA bends rules to help out mid-majors. Perhaps they will also hammer the ACC, SEC and other basketball powers. Maybe they will lighten up on the marijuana rule and we will get Southall back for his last year. Yes, I am being sarcastic.
