Unlike 2014, the whole nation is going to take a huge hit on this. I agree with your overall point though, buyouts are going to be even more difficult to overcome. It will be incredibly interesting to see what happens with existing coaching salaries, as well as, new openings and salaries.

The optics of that is going to be brutal.

Same reason he was suspended. A university rule may be involved here. A very small number of folks have bee aware of this possibility for some time. Now that the roster is virtually complete, it of course leads to speculation of the rotation. Obviously there are no scholarships remaining now so it becomes obvious he won't be on scholarship. Since that is now known, might as well let folks become aware of the situation when possible lineups are discussed.

Thanks for that information. That adds depth to the guard position. If he is basically getting a medical redshirt, I wonder if that means he will have four years of eligibility remaining rather than three.

I'm ready for a change, i just have hard time believing that it will happen after next year unfortunately
There is a possibility that the season will be successful which will make the buyout issue moot. Four of the five starters from the end of the season return as well as the first guard off the bench. That in itself is not that meaningful since they had issues in some areas. However indications are depth will be improved due to guys returning from injury and recent encouraging recruiting news. I think we all hope for improved results. These developments make some more optimistic. Others have such a bad taste from last season’s disappointment that nothing will make them optimistic until tipoff. Others are highly confident results will now be much better no matter what occurs in the off season. Difference of opinion is healthy and leads to good discussion.

If there is no football season, there will be no others sports this year either. A majority of AD's have been saying in the media that if the football season is not played this year, no other sports will be played. Football delivers over 75% on sports revenue in college athletics programs. That revenue is critical for other sports as well. The point may be moot.

I think the bigger question will be if football is played even if you can't allow fans in the stadiums? Curve is flattening and there are a lot of things to be hopeful for sports moving forward in the fall but.....

JBE will not shut down Tiger Stadium and survive come September. If you can afford a football team you might get the same treatment as LSU fans.

The answer is no, the AD's would rather delay the season or reduce the number of games played and have an abbreviated season. To play a game, still cost a program money because of support staff. No fans means no season tickets.

If you bring athletes back to campus, we must have support staff in place for team meals, strength & conditioning, dorms, etc; If the student body isn't allowed back on campus, you want see football athletes back on campus either. It's just not practical to play games in empty stadiums for the NCAA.

I agree but when does his contract expire? Is it not after 20-21?

I understand this is a real possibility. Wonder when that decision will be made. As far as when Coach Marlin’s contract ends, I believe it is in 2023. Buyout drops each year however and would not be a factor after this season under normal circumstances.

I am a bit confused by the #2 guy; he will go to Louisville if they offer more than the NBA?

What’s the minimum you’d want from Marlin to extend his contract. No doubt he’s gotta have at least 3 years on his contract to have a chance to recruit well.

IMO he’d need to get to the NCAA and at least get to the second round along with a 24 game regular season win total. The ship left and it’s almost out of the tug boat’s range.
