OK. Let me clarify a few things.
Losing Patty in the Park was a big deal. That thing sells out every year.
When I was let go, so were Kevin and Cody. The only part timers left aren't paid directly by 1420. Kevin started at the station about two weeks after we went on the air. Like me, he was there 21 years.
The plan is for me to continue doing play by play, whenever we have another season. What could negate that is, if I land a full time job that doesn't permit me to take the time off, I'd have to give it up. While, that is technically true, I do not foresee it happening.
The Learfield/Townsquare contract has three years to run. There may be a change or two to the contract since I'm no longer employed by Townsquare. But nothing that you would notice from an on air standpoint.
I know I don't know Jay and Kevin personally, but I have met them at Guys night out. But more importantly, I have listened to them for 21 YEARS. I feel like a part of me will be missing when we finally get back to some kind of normalcy again. And I know the day will happen when Jay is no longer the voice of the Cajuns, but I want it to be under his terms with a proper fair well "tour".
Thanks Jay and Kevin for 21 years of great sports radio.
There's no doubt, when the time comes, everyone will miss Jay. But, life goes on. I grew up two houses down from Ron Gomez. He was the voice of the Cajuns for many years. I worked with Don Allen. He was the voice of the Cajuns for many years. Let's hope whoever the next voice of the Cajun is has as much talent as the three previous voices of the Cajuns.
Let’s just pray that after this is all over, the Cajuns still have a voice!
