At least 2 other large radio ownership groups are in the same shape, iheart and Cumulus. Cumulus just went through a furloughing purge...they own KSMB. When the virus hit the fan, iheart lost in excess of 40 million in revenue.

I believe most on-air folks at TSM Lafayette are broadcasting from home right now. So there are bound to be some technical glitches along the way. I believe Ian had to actually go to the studio to get his show on the air, just judging from his most recent FB post.

Just like the highly profitable Daily Advertiser was attractive to Gannett. Gannett didn't know what make it tick.

Several companies bought and sold (for a profit) the local stations that make up TownSquare's Acadiana holdings. TownSquare did this nation-wide and went deeply in debt to do this.

So when you hear of financial problems in the media, its not covering daily operations for a profit that is the problem. Its covering massive acquisition loans and interest that are the death knell.

These stations borrow hundreds of millions of dollar$ to own the license to the airwaves, but won't borrow a few thousand to keep the secret sauce that makes them tick.

Jay Walker's furlough is a prime example, of how Town Square is being penny wise and pound foolish.

He may not be, but when I tune in to the show in the afternoons and he is on, it always seems to be LaSU, so I usually change the station. He might do more UL, but I haven't heard but one segment of him interviewing a UL softball player.

However, no one is talking about Foote. Why is he gone? Like I stated earlier, I will be listening Monday AM. I'm curious how everything will play out. Oh, and are they going solo, or pairing with another host?

i thought foote was a full time writer for the newspaper? how can someone do both? media claim to always want transparency but honestly their own methods arent very transparent. the systems in general, not singling out foote. who is full time who is part time, etc etc, if they dont explain these things how do young kids decide on these careers at career day for example, media seems so hush hush. writers are editors, senior correspondent but no junior correspondent, etc etc

I dunno. I was replying to a previous comment. To me 200 grand is a lot of money for something I didn't think was such a big deal. Maybe it is a big deal. I never went to it . I do know they promoted it to the point that I got sick of the promotions.

No more J. Walker. I had been thinking something's up since it has been about 2 weeks since we heard him. Will he still be the voice of the Cajuns?

I'm pretty sure that Jay posted on Facebook that he will continue to be the VOICE of the Cajuns for at least anther couple of years. He has a contract with Learfield that I understand is totally separate from TownSquare Media. TownSquare apparently has a deal with Learfield to broadcast Cajun sports for the next few years, but has no say so in the on-air talent. That is strictly between Learfield and UL.

At least that is my understanding based on Jay's post.
