Even Lake Charles and Alexandria regions will benefit from a medical school being in Lafayette based at UL.
Ochsner taking over hospitals or doctors in you region will be a disaster. Ive watched what has happened in our town with Ochsner taking over the hospital and many doctors and Memorial taking over the remainder of the doctors which leave no independent doctors in our area. Also you almost cant have any direct contact with your doctor as all communication goes through a central switchboard which is pathetic. I tried to return a call to my doctor for over a month and couldn't get a message through the idiot subpar operators. Billing is a nightmare with constant screw ups on how things get coded and constant crazy bills coming from the Ochsner system. Horrible customer service and limited help if you have a problem. Ochsner is not a solution it is part of the problem

Have a good friend that’s a hospital administrator. They’ll be two systems when it’s all said and done...Our Lady of the Lake and Ochsner..

I made an error...there will be only 2 PRIVATE health care systems in Louisiana. Charity will still exist.

The issue is underserved populations. That’s is why ULM is a landlord. And I can promise you LSU Med School was in in those discussions. Saw first hand they were here when UL was approached to be a landlord. Happen to walk up on group as they were gathering.

I’m going to say they do a great job for me. I’ve got zero problems with communication since 2013. Works differently than independent doctors, but works. My wife and I have had tens of hundreds of issues communication due to health issues not necessarily associated with aging.

Billing? Yeah that’s a bit complicated, but they’ve always worked with me period.

I can’t speak to your particular issues but I’ve never been happier than being with Ochsners, and granted I was fortunate enough to not have needed more than a flu vaccine for decades.

This article appeared in The Advocate. Does a nice job of explaing VCOM, why it's attached to ULM, and other questions. BTW, 71 is a grad of the Spartanburg, SC school... https://www.theadvocate.com/acadiana...d5d28d3a4.html

It doesn't take higher mathematics to understand doctors and lawyers are higher income than the median income. Hence, Huey set it up for LSU to have deep ties to these future donors.
