With the very real doctor shortage Covid-19 has exposed, UL needs to make a big push to establish a new Medical School in the State.

Would bring a ton of diversification to our Acadiana economy. I believe Lafayette General is already a designated teaching hospital. With Oschsners coming in might increase clout. Ultimately it's a political solution to get this done. There's no downside for the region or the State. Even Lake Charles and Alexandria regions will benefit from a medical school being in Lafayette based at UL.
If there was ever going to be a time to get it green lighted through the system, this will be the time.
good luck
If schools with "state" in title went back into the "state university system" the drain on the "university of" system budget that they are might easily pay for this with room to spare
Purple and Gold won’t allow it.
There’s a doctor shortage in America because of LSU? Maybe you’re saying there’s a doctor shortage because many leave for more lucrative states.
We have plenty of doctors graduating, just not enough want to work for so much less.
My daughter in law made a financial sacrifice to practice in Louisiana so her children would be near their families. She’s still passing up lucrative offers out of state.
So I get the LSU issues, I just don’t think it’s the main reason we’re short of MD. Of course we’re soon gonna get some spine manipulatiors out of MoanRow soon. Maybe they can choose to stay at lower income.
