Im not questioning your judgment on this kid and im not here to drag either of the two kids you mention in your post thru the mud. We dont switch positions when Dupuy is on the field with Windham. We switch when someone other than Dupuy is in the game. Its no secret Dupuy is light at the plate. But the head scratcher is why is he not here? 2 freshman were kept and one is starting to shape into a reliable bat as a freshman. The other has had moments, more of what id expect out of a true freshman gettng limited AB’s. He shows flashes but inconsistent up to this point. So did we just get rid of a kid that was gonna sit behind Cantrelle just because? Who is our back up SS? Who is next years SS? Thats really the question i have. Why isnt he here?

NO inside info on this whatsoever but sometimes kids get sent to JUCO for just the reason you described. They could sit here all year and rarely if ever see the field or they could go JUCO and actually get playing time and improve their game.

Also have another middle infielder who was supposed to play a lot get injured right before the season started.

Doesn't matter if he is off to a fast start or a slow start, the sample size is way too small. Time will tell if Coach Deggs was right or wrong on this kid AND all the others that left. I see only two realistic options from Coach Deggs perspective, in regards to every Freshman that didn't make the final roster:

1. He just didn't think they were good enough to help the team after seeing them in the Fall.
2. Their talent wasn't enough to overcome personality/chemistry issues.

Sure, some will say these kids could've been 'placed' at JUCOs to grow, but if you look at the past, a very low percentage (less than 10%) ever go back to the school they originally signed with. So, I really don't see coaches utilizing this strategy for such a meager return.

I hope all of our signees that went elsewhere all perform well, and if they don't come back, at least not go to another Sun Belt program and haunt us.

I honestly dont think Deggs was in a win win situation this fall. He had a ton of ____ to overcome and roster management was one of them. He inherited a rough situation based on the performance of last years team. Im certain it will be better moving forward and things will work themselves out.

Another player that is proving he can hit Junior College Div II pitching.

D2 JUCO pitching overall is marginal at best. Rare to see a D2 pitcher hit 90. Large majority of JUCO MLB drafts are players from D1 JUCO or once played at D1.

Some of the teams LSUE is playing don't have a single pitcher capable of reaching 90.

Also have to remember this is Juco D II pitching. His batting average is .387. The team barring average is .389. This is after 17 games.

I would suggest that until a kid walks onto the field and faces live D 1 pitching in a real D1 game, we really do not know if he can hit. We have several kids on this team that put up similar numbers in Juco and probably in Intersquads in the fall and have not shown it here in real games, yet.

Ill live and die with high school kids that come to a D1 program and learn to figure it out despite struggling right off. They almost always figure it out. And you have 3-4 years with those kids. The problem is when you start missing on kids the juco route is SUPPOSE to be the quick fix. But like Robe always said...they go backwards before they go forward. Problem is their time frame is short.

I don't think a verdict can immediatly be drawn when new a (coaching) system slows down here to fore hitting machines.
