Rice won with premium arms. Graham was a pitching coach, like Tony was, so they were able to keep a full cupboard of elite pitching.

Now, there are fewer elite players opting for college. Most just sign for the big money and go directly into MLB organizations.

Graham stayed too long, lost a few really talented assistants who got tired of waiting for him to retire. Their recruiting has suffered, and towards the end of their regional run, they were getting paired up in the Baton Rouge regional with LSU.
