Seems like alot of moves have ended up backfiring so far in this young season. Starting with pulling Angel in game 1 with the reliever giving up that homerun against Southeastern. Its been a bad run since. Perhaps those are just the breaks in this game. Have to trust the process over the long run and the coach we brought in to take us to the next level. Nothing comes easy in this life. Gotta feel the bad to appreciate the good. With that said we are not a good team right now!
There was an interesting dynamic at play against his old players that he knows, coached and recruited last night. I’m sure that played a part in overcoaching. Not excusing anything just stating the situation. I wouldn’t bring Robe into this, that’s not fair for anyone. Let coach Deggs figure this out, he is not Robe nor should he be expected to be. Lets also not forget how much Robe was blamed for getting swept by Deggs at San Houston last year, especially after bringing in outfielder Oryonn Veillon to pitch and we lost. Voices here were questioning Robe. Coaches make mistakes and have to find out what their teams have in the process, often the right decision can also not have the intended result, such is life. Deggs stepped up for us and we need to have his back. Nothing is won or lost in game 10 except bandwagon fans.
I hope we can bounce back and win the series Sat/Sun. Would really do alot for this teams confidence heading into conference play soon. We have the pitching to compete this year, hitting is another story, but we have a hitting coach guru leading our team and I believe we will see improvement.
On a positive note I caught some of the game on the radio and really loved the broadcast. Great baseball convo’s, Topham is doing an excellent job and keeps that local flavor at the same time!
For some reason everyone thinks Deggs promised a College world series trophy in year one.
Deggs may have messed up but NOBODY brought up another sterling 15 K’s we had. There’s our problem, this thread would not be so long if we’d put the ball in play. Until that is fixed, embrace the suck as they say.
Who said anything about grooving a fastball down the plate? Ever heard of unintentional, intentional walk? See my other post. Maybe we get that guy to swing at a bad pitch. Maybe not. Regardless, sending the signal that you're scared is far worse.
Look, I was ranting last night. But, I stand by the fact that intentional walking 2 straight hitters to load the bases was and never will be the right decision. I don't really care what you think or anyone else thinks, that's just plain stupid and playing with Fire.
You’re ranting about trusting your pitcher. But you then go on to ignore the fact that it takes way more trust in your pitcher to IW a hitter and pitch with the bases loaded. Idk what happened to Toro (maybe he’s more dinged up then we’ve been lead to believe) but he’s been awful behind the plate. He’s been tremendous throwing out runners and hitting in clutch situations, but I’m confused by how much he’s struggled to handle our pitching staff. Still learning I guess, but he’s got to be better. Conor Cooke was incredible last night and the correct call was made, after he fell behind. Had the kid walked to the plate and Deggs sent him to first base without a pitch, I would have questioned the decision myself. But Rogers can flat out hit and we’ve already had too many heartbreaks. I understood the decision and still support it, even though it didn’t work out. (For the record, if Toro catches the baseball, we’re not even having this conversation.)
Everyone needs to calm the hell down. It’s going to take time to right this ship.
We know you know everything and are always right.
Our coach has been making all the right coaching decisions over this early season to give us the best chances to win.
Each one of these statements is equally as correct as the other.
Just one note. While you champion the call to intentionally walk 2 batters to place the winning run on third base, you spend half your post discussing how,bad the catcher we had behind the plate has been this year defensively.
Duh.
