Believe it or not, the last time it was this warm in Acadiana was on January 23rd! After a very cold winter, the springlike temperatures are very welcome. Just before noon, the temperature in Lafayette was 72 degrees. We had a string of 4 days in January where we hitthe 70 degree mark, and only 1 day in February. The warm air could mean big thunderstorms later today and this evening. Storms are already building in Texas with showers over the Gulf of Mexico. The Storm Prediction Center has Acadiana in an area of slight risk for severe storms. Damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes are the biggest threat.
