Breaks in the clouds and fog this morning will allow periods of sunshine today, but that sunshine may add fuel to the fire when it comes to thunderstorms later today and tonight. A vigorous system moving out of west Texas is already generating storms around Dallas. Showers are also developing across the northern Gulf of Mexico as of midday. Warm, moist air will be in place as a cold front moves eastward. The jet stream, a river of fast moving air in the upper levels of the atmosphere, will be in place over Louisiana as the front approaches. The heating on the ground from the sun will get the storms going, and the jet stream will help to sustain, or maybe even intensify those storms. Heavy rain, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes may be possible into this evening.
