I would agree but finishing top 4 is something that Maggard has expressed as a goal.

Then the Maggard bar is too low. I fully understand that goal, but it’s a joke in the current SBC.

Marlin has to make the dance to keep his job IMO anything else his buyout is too low and fan's won't come back for anything less.

Although If they extend him for anything less than a Ncaa birth I'm dropping my Rcaf donation to 0 and encourage everyone to do the same

There is no money to buy him out. There is no chance that ticket or chair back prices will fall. There is no chance that RCAF contribution rates will reduce and there is no chance we are going to see the NCAA's in the next couple of years. Best we can hope for is a competitive run at the Sunbelt championship. Until football attendance reaches the 25K level, there will be no extra money for other sports and probably unlikely after that b/c if we get there and keep winning why move money to other non-revenue sports. The only way basketball returns to its former level is if football drops to the southland conference; and the university athletic leaders decide that UL can become a powerhouse as a spring sport school. Until then, enjoy the $3 beers (just let uber/lfyt bring you home); the one dollar hot dogs and below average basketball! Forgot to mention move out of the cajundome.

His buyout will be under 100k in 21 there is no excuse because for 500k it's an extremely attractive job

Of course you know that dropping to FCS is a non event mainly because we’d lose money. It’s not a money generator, that’s why ULMOST fighting so desperately to stay FBS

Those things are never made public by any university. Sometimes it escapes somehow, probably leaking by staff.

Rec'd an email from RCAF this morning offering free general admission tickets to this Wednesday's game. Nice gesture, but timing seems off. When you can't beat Monroe, enthusiasm for this season is long gone. And it's a sad testimony on state of the program when how we fare against UMonroe becomes a measuring stick. We seem farther away from next level up than ever even in this watered down conference.

It’s a sad day when the best defense of a failed coach is we can’t afford to fire him.

Rightso everyone just support this clown show of a basketball program and shut up.

You have been posting this same message for nearly two years yet make every effort here to act impartial to Marlin. It seems as though there are too many fans that are just satisfied to be a friend of the UL basketball coach rather than wanting to support a competitive program.

With this mind set, which you have been posting for multiple years about Marlin’s job security, we will see the same tired posts with excuses 12 months from now after another disappointing season.

This Coach is not cutting it and the excuses are way past tired of hearing.

I have to believe that as much as you love the UL Basketball Program you MUST realize that it’s time to stop making excuses for this coach. Stop asking posters to just “support the team because Marlin’s job is safe” because the fan base does need to make sure Maggard knows this product is unacceptable.

We are past the point of no return. There will be no fan base once Maggard finally decides to move on from Marlin.

It could always be worse. Here's a post from Barfs and Bytes regarding Kim Mulky.

"There's two sides to every coin and every story. One side is glorious. KM reaches 600 wins faster than ANY D1 MB or WB basketball coach in history. Congratulations Kim! The other side is the worst AD and athletic president in school history allow this same great coach to leave our school over some petty contract issues and disdain for the future of what at the time was one of the great WB programs. Now look where she is and we ain't. What we are now is a program that may never even win its own conference again - certainly not trending in that direction over the last several years. The tale of two programs. Should make for a great ESPN drama documentary "

The "snot flying out of my nose" line is great. Tech had their own version of "The Fossil".

  15. UL Basketball Re: Sorry can't fire Marlin

I can't speak for Cajunsmike, but his love and devotion is to the program, not any coach.

I know for a fact he loves everything UL and derives a great deal of enjoyment in being in the various booster clubs. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to realize being factual can be seen as being in love with the coach regardless of success.

Don't expect him to quit posting and shouldn't. He's just trying to get people to understand the reality of the situation.

Finally he cannot post negatives about the coach and still expect to get inside information. Goes back to the saying 'never sh !t where you eat'.
