Deggs is a disruptor on the base paths. He likes mayhem. So do I. That is usually a given. We will run into outs. Might as well get used to it, cuz it's part of the plan.
I can live with getting thrown out being aggressive trying to get an extra base when the timing is right. Baserunners need to know the situation. Knowing how Deggs coaches, I expect baserunners to know the situation.
I love mayhem on the base paths. We will "win" more times that we will "lose".
Can we start a tally now of how many times the double squeeze works vs how many times it gets stopped? That is my favorite play in baseball.
How about we give this coach and our players a chance before delving into the negative. He will determine if the risk/reward is worth it. This style of play terrifies defenses. Sometimes the reward comes later just from showing the willingness to take the risk earlier. Anticipation sometimes kills defensive success.
Team will be a work in progress. There will be base running errors, missed assignments and all the other things that come with baseball.
Take your expectations, throw them out of the window, and just enjoy the ride.
2013 - 76 steals
2014 - 109 steals
2019 - 93 steals
In the "aggressive" years of 2013 and 2014 the most steals any single player had was 22 (Jace Conrad). Last year, considered "not as aggressive" Hayden Cantrelle had 28 steals. Anxious to see if he's able to significantly increase that number under Deggs' aggressive system. I realize that steals are not the only stat factored in (hit and run, bunt and run) but still interesting.
