The body of a local fisherman was found just before midnight Monday in St. Martin Parish.
The body has been identified as 40-year-old Miles Serrette. He left Monday morning, alone, to check his crawfish traps along the Atchafalaya Basin. When he did not come home by late afternoon, his family called the St. Martin Sheriff's Department.

The Sheriff's Department and Wildlife & Fisheries spent several hours looking for him. They found the body at approximately 11:20pm a quarter mile south of the Butte Larose landing in the Atchafalaya River.

Law enforcement officials believe he was getting ready to dock at the end of the day when he drowned.
