Georgia State is the class of the SBC, no one else is even close. Express is right in that these discussions won't cause a change to happen this year, regardless of how the rest of the season turns out. However, if struggles continue into 2021, all bets are off. No idea at this point how that will go.

These discussions here are not meant to create a change. We ALL understand this. If I felt that the administration would listen, my discussions would be with them. If people don't want to see the range of comments on our coaching situation here, they don't have to read them.

Julien, Wilson, and Caldwell will be the catalyst were success to arise in 2021. They will return the following year. I do think one thing the concerns raised here may impact. You are really grasping at straws now. No way he should ever get another extension unless he makes the NCAA tournament.

I don't follow basketball as closely as I do other sports, so my question is, who is out there this year that we could go and get that would be an upgrade in coaching for the program. Some years there are better coaching prospects than others, is this an up year or is this a down year for coaches in the job pool? And are there any young hungry coaches out there on the radar that would be in consideration for a hc job?

So I was thinking about something for the last 12 years I had previously been a Sales Manager of multiple Salespeople. And one of our ways of doing business, was to constantly evaluate the bottom % of our team, to see if they needed to be replaced (obviously new salespeople get a grace period).

So if we used this same theory with an Athletic Director at UL. UL has 11 coaches listed below:

WE WILL CALL THESE GUYS THE UNTOUCHABLES--EITHER IN GRACE PERIOD OR CONSISTENT WINNERS
Deggs--Baseball--In grace period, since this is his first year (off limits)
Napier--Football--Winning consistently (off limits)
Key--Soccer--In grace period and winning (off limits)
Glasco--Softball--Winning, still technically in grace period (off limits)

WE WILL CALL THESE GUYS THE SAFE GUYS--WINNING ENOUGH OR IMPROVING
Jeffrey--Men's Tennis--Has a recent conference championship and regular winning seasons
Badeaux--T/F and X-Country--Seems to have the teams on an upward trajectory
Vallejos--Women's Tennis--Has been bad forever, but seems to be improving
Broadhead--Women's BB--I give him a pass last year because of the circumstances, this year is a big year to decide if he stays on this list or falls to the next one.
Mazeitis-Fontenot--Volleyball--Has had some recent success, but we need to keep an eye on results

WATCH LIST--These coaches should be reviewed at the end of the season as they should be considered for being let go.
Marlin--Basketball--I really like Marlin, but we continue to under achieve. My personal opinion is to give him an extra year due to the circumstances this year and if we are not in the top 2 or 3 in the conference next year he should be gone, but that is an AD decision.
Sliman--Golf--I think if Golf does not contend for a conference championship this year he should be gone, we have not been competitive for a long time.

So using this strategy, I would each year look at my bottom tow or three coaches as I see them, and rank them 1-11. If you were to replace Marlin and Sliman this year, then next year, the bottom three could be Mateives-Fontenot, Vallejos, Broadhead or Jeffery and make a decision on these 4 on who is in the bottom, and so on and so on. This way you are always looking to make your bottom of your staff stronger. This is not to say, just because they are the bottom 2 or 3 that you would release them, it is just to say that every year you should be considering the bottom 2 or 3 members of your team to be replaced. In theory this is a great way to look at your staff, it is not always the only way to evaluate, but it gives you perspective on what you would like to want your coaches to achieve. If the top guy on your list is a Glasco or Napier, then the bottom coaches should be shooting for the same type of success. Meaning that battling for conference championship (top 2 or 3 consistently) is the bottom of your top tier guys. The top should be battling for National Championships.

Granted you may have to replace the guys at the top tier guys due to them leaving, illness or even in Coach Robe's situation death.

I said he would NOT get an extension with one good year. Up to Dr. Maggard if he gets one after two good years.

You really shouldn't count players like Caldwell as potential saviors. I think I warned you about Johnson. He's turned out to be very average.

Anyway I'm still standing on my initial theory. Maggard wouldn't hire Bob applying with his tenure and resume. We sure as hell should never rehire our current mistake with extensions.

He will almost always make the correct play. He is someone who will average about 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. He will also be a more than solid defensive player. That won't turn a program around on it's own but can help right the ship if other guys improve. I mentioned Wilson and Julien earlier because they have shown flashes of good play this year. I did not say we will have a successful season next year. No way will I go that far out on a limb due to what has occurred this year. I said IF we have a good year, those three guys will be largely responsible for it. Again, IF that happens there is reason to believe the following season will be successful.
