I think regurgitating the past with Marlin is a waste of time on this board. We’ve seen everybody’s views on the past.
Here’s the question about his appropriate resume for the future. Does anybody think Maggard would pick this cat up for us if he were looking for a coach? I doubt it. If that’s the case what’s the wait about? Coaches are often fired for the most unimportant reasons.
Absolutely not. Marlin would t even warrant an interview here based off of his last 10 years of production.
We should be a program that turns coaches over every 3-5 years because we are that successful. We aren’t in a high major or high mid major league. So expecting a coach to stay for 5+ years is ridiculous. It means he isn’t winning enough, but not losing either. It’s stagnant which is the worst place to be in as a program like ours.
We are in desperate need of new life pumped into the basketball program. It’s on the verge of dying, which is a shame because it a program that could earn us an enormous amount of money. Especially if it were dominant in the SBC like NMSU is in their league.
I didnt like the Marlin hire from the beginning. A blah, vanilla, milquetoast hire. A coach that would do JUST enough to keep his job, but never truly elevate the program. Ive been bummed about Cajuns basketball for a decade. It amazes me the _____ excuses made for Marlin on this board. Talk about the great Cajuns BB history, then fill the board with excuses for a bland, middle of the road, average team. A GD decade of this crap! ITS PAST TIME FOR CHANGE!!!!!! Geezus Christ this program is crap!!!
Dumb ___ comparison. Football at NMSU went to a bowl game their last season in the SBC, but as an independent they will die on the vine. Also, the Acadiana area alone produces more college talent football players than the entire state of New Mexico. They don’t sacrifice football for basketball, they simply don’t have the talent pool to recruit from.
So let’s keep things in perspective, NMSU is in a one bid league, which they dominate. They go to March Madness nearly every year and receive NCAA units for appearances. If they win a game that’s an extra unit. Whereas we can’t dominate the SBC, when we are “The Class of the SBC”.
Georgia State is the class of the SBC, no one else is even close. Express is right in that these discussions won't cause a change to happen this year, regardless of how the rest of the season turns out. However, if struggles continue into 2021, all bets are off. No idea at this point how that will go.
Mike he will likely have a good year next season followed by 3 crappy ones. It’s the same song and dance (minus the dance) part throughout his tenure.
It is past time for a change. The attendance will continue to dwindle even with a good season next year. The excitement around the Bob Marlin program died after the first mass exodus of players. Even I have him a chance after that. Then it happened again. A Marlin led program just won’t excite the fan base as evident by attendance.
Don’t forget we are a basketball school. That will never change.
I cAn see us having a good season the year after next IF we have a good season in 2021. I did capitalize the IF. Concerns some have about health of injured guys may be valid. Julien, Wilson, and Caldwell will be the catalyst were success to arise in 2021. They will return the following year. I do think one thing the concerns raised here may impact. I don’t see another extension being granted following a successful campaign next year
You really shouldn't count players like Caldwell as potential saviors. I think I warned you about Johnson. He's turned out to be very average.
Anyway I’m still standing on my initial theory. Maggard wouldn’t hire Bob applying with his tenure and resume. We sure as hell should never rehire our current mistake with extensions.
