I guess I don't understand the rule with the playclock going but the referee had not allowed us to snap the ball due to subs coming in so why do we have to get the penalty for delay of game?

Yes but you often see this with teams that have been off for a month in bowl season. I'm not worried as we did move the ball. If only LL had gone for that first down instead of sliding.
