Thread: New Orleans Bowl Attendance

    Default New Orleans Bowl Attendance

In its 18 years, 8 years have had over 30,000 fans. 5 with UL, 3 w/o.
    2008 USM - Troy 30,197
    2009 MTSU - USM 30,223
    2011 UL - SDSU 42,481
    2012 UL - ECU 48,823
    2013 UL - Tulane 54,723
    2014 UL - Nevada 34,014
    2015 LaTech - Ark St 32,847
    2016 UL - USM 35,061

All top five attendance figures are ULs. Don't think it will ever get old for me.
If format doesn't look good, it's my grandson's fault. He's not here to show me what to do.

The SBC is 2-1, Boomer. The twoASUs won and Georgia Southern lost.

Wow. These type bowls really need regional matchups for decent attendance.

If as the SBC commissioner stated they want to preserve the bowl system, then the bowls and universities deserve to have some influence in choosing each other instead of being 100% preordained. Appalachian St. as SBC champ should have a voice in either making the 750 mile trip to NOLA or if NOLA Bowl agrees, let them go to Orlando or Charlotte, or some other bowl attractive to their fans. Doubtful App St. and NOLA Bowl wanted a back to back repeat visit. With 21K tickets sold, its a lose-lose situation for everyone including the local charities the NOLA Bowl benefits. Sure the bowls need protecting, the universities need protecting but what they are doing now makes the SBC commissioner's words ring hollow.

The current SBC commissioner actually seems to be a placeholder until we actually can secure a true up and coming one.

Didn't Bensen retire fairly suddenly? If so, that may have hurt the search.

I would say yes it was rather sudden, but not so sudden as to hamper a search.

No, he gave plenty of notice.

Regardless you don't make a bad hire because of time, you live with the interim and get a great candidate. This guy was simply checking boxes to be qualified on paper. I found nothing seperating him from dozens of others. Maybe Jay can show us all the innovative things he did while checking those boxes.

I say we make the New Orleans Bowl our house. We win the SBC every year and paint the town red.

You're right - no excuse for a bad hire. Who made the hire? Is it a board of directors, or university presidents, or some other? Sounds like either not many outstanding candidates, or not a very thorough review/interview process.

Purely a guess, but I’d say that the SBC hired a consulting firm with a list of things accomplished. The presidents probably selected a from about a half dozen.
