The debate over traffic cameras is re-ignited, after a New Orleans lawmaker has proposed bill that would effectively ban traffic cameras like those used in the SafeLight, SafeSpeed program in Lafayette.

Representative Jeff Arnold is behind the two bills. House Bill 159 would prohibit civil fines for traffic violations without a public vote, and House Bill 160, which would ban mounted traffic cameras from issuing violations in the first place.

"Oh I'm going to vote against the bills that's for sure," said State Representative Jack Montoucet, which represents District 42, covering Lafayette and Acadia Parishes.
