The sanctions didn't turn the fans against him. He did that by himself with the video fiasco and the ridiculing of fans. Had he not done that, he might still be here.
We want more people in the stands. The last thing we need is even a hint of ridicule from the administration, coaching staff, or media outlets. They are getting dangerously close to crossing that line.
You all can say it’s not Napier’s jobs to fill the seats and to hell if it’s just us 14k hardcore fans...but just remember that if/when we get ranked next season and we can’t pay the man and his top staff, don’t look around and wonder why we can’t make it work (without crippling everything else in the athletic dept)
And yet some of our biggest crowds ever aren’t P5, or good G5 non conference opponents. They’re FCS schools who happen to be in Louisiana.
There’s been a dilution of what a bowl game means, especially since only three bowl games matter in the bigger reality. So getting to and winning bowls might be dessert it’s no longer the main course.
Win conference, upset a P5, don’t lose to a peer group school, and we may see significant increases.
Son just told me hunting is a biggie. Golf courses clear out in November. That matches some theories on this board.
Like it or not most "fans" today expect much more than a game. Look at the Golden Knights NHL team. I know it is Vegas but you have to have a complete package moving forward in my opinion if you want the attendance numbers.
I’m an old school kind of guy. I like the way Coach Napier handles the team and his
“Matter of Fact” approach. Very much a substance guy. That said, if he could just show SOME of his locker room charisma in press conferences or other public appearances it could help energize the casual fan base.
I am telling you that with our current coaches and scheduling philosophy in mens and womens basketball, we will never be accepted into the AAC, no matter what football does. If we are committed to those coaches and that philosophy, we should cut basketball to the bone and give the money to sports that understand committmemt to excellence.
