The second week of spring practice for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns football team got underway Monday afternoon. Light rain showers earlier in the day and the possibility of future showers moved practice inside of the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility.

Defensive coordinator Kevin Fouquier would have like to have seen more from the defensive unit.

"We had a good practice on Saturday, but I thought today was average for the defense," Fouquier mentioned. "Offensively, guys moved around well and they out-executed us today. Defense didn't improve at some positions, but as a whole unit I felt we show some strides.

The Cajuns conducted the ever-spirited "middle drill" plus special teams, skeleton and pass rush drill followed before practice concluded with three team periods.

"We were soft and the offense came and hit us hard," Fouquier admitted. "I felt we didn't respond well.

"We just let the offense take it to us a little bit today in all phases."

UL is gearing up for the first scrimmage of the 2010 spring schedule which will take place Saturday. Fouquier is using this week's three practices - today, Wednesday and Friday - to prepare the defense for Saturday's battle with the offense.

"We'll try to get in as many blitzes and different coverage packages," Fouquier said. "The key is learning them as the week progresses."

The Ragin' Cajuns are off Tuesday then return to practice on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
