Grant did you remove the post? I actually had friends on my feed that shared your post. Now I don’t see it.
Your Facebook post was spot on, and you even got some shares on Twitter from screenshots that people took of the post.
Here’s the issue, and I’ve mentioned this before. I have many friends and family that attended LSU. Personally, I’m indifferent to them and quite honestly, I’m happy for Coach O because he is a good guy. Now, here’s the issue with why the LSU fans are responding the way that they are; and it’s very simple. They’ve been sold one school in this state for decades and all they can see is through the purple and gold glasses. Because that’s all they really know. And what comes after that are the uneducated bandwagon fans who like to latch on to their success because they want to be a part of something that’s bigger than their own ambitions. It’s easy to follow a program that consistently wins. As a diehard Saints fan who sat through many live games of awful defeats, it’s funny how all of a sudden we have this enormous fan base that was nowhere to be found 20 years ago. People want to be associated with a consistent winner, and we are just trapped in a situation to where we just started to win again along with the last three years of bad publicity under Hud. If we keep winning, the fans will come back. And as far as LSU fans complaining, they were never on our side to begin with.
Simple way to address this on social media without offending anyone. Just say the message was not meant for LSU fans. It is meant for folks in Acadiana and UL grads everywhere who may not realize how well the Cajuns are doing, how much fun it is to watch them play, and how affordable attending a game is. Just asking they consider checking it out this weekend.
Guys. After careful consideration, and seeing my whole purpose for the post being completely taken out of context, I DID delete the post. I asked my FB peeps to share for others to see, unfortunately many of the 250 shares were by LSU “never Cajuns” fans to other LSU fans. Many of whom are not from the Acadiana area. I then realized that my message was being misconstrued. Furthermore, Cajuns began arguing with LSU loyalists. Not at all want I wanted. So rather than propagated this Pandora’s Box, I closed it. It looked as though some were headed towards personal attacks on me, and I’m not going there. Too many people monitoring my FB posts, plus my daughter goes to LSU - I don’t want to put her in a negative situation - some people are that crazy.
I appreciate everyone’s criticism. I still hold to my ideals listed in the post. But I felt it best to delete. The genie is out the bottle already, I’m letting it do the rest.
