Everybody who reads this fan site knows my view on the Big Fish. He’s been a bust almost every season. But this thread is about women basketball.

Gary is a great person as far as I can tell and a great high school coach. He’s in over his head in in NCAA Div I basketball. That doesn’t make him a bad person, or loser. Most coaches plateau and get fired. Here they rest and accumulate higher pensions.

Kelley Hall took over a program that had never had a winning season, and in less than half the time Brodhead has had, he coached his team to an NCAA at large bid. That is one.

In men's basketball at Little Rock, Chris Beard took over a team that won 7 games the year before he arrived. He had 9 new faced of 13 on the roster and in his FIRST year went 31-4 and WON a first round NCAA game. That is two.

Ron Hunter at Georgia State won 3 outright Conference championships and an NCAA Tournament game in only 5 year with the program. That is 3, and we haven't even left the SBC, nor have we talked about the really successful women's coaches at MTSU and Little Rock.

Because it’s an absolutely low bar.

It’s clear that some are only too happy to provide positive propaganda for a bad Div I women coach. Reminds me of the BS about Marlin career. A career to be envied as the ultimate survivor

1 third place finish in 8 years. 1 fourth place finish in 8 years. 0 firsts or seconds. In a conference that is maybe half as strong as it was when Hall was coaching, as MTSU an WKU were gone.

I’d be as happy as anyone on this board if Gary and Bob actually lived up to the hype, or at least were successful. Successful being in top three and make ncaa at least 20% of the time.

Unfortunately after nearly a decade for Gary and a decade for Bob are nowhere near starting to accomplish those things, and haven’t in the UL career.
