Could we have used him? Maybe. He wasn’t going to play in front of Gant.

Had a long thread about the high number of transfers in NCAA basketball, thousands of high school studs chasing 1,755 starting slots in D-1 basketball. Settling in at McNeese as a leader, which has been putrid of late, worked for Brown. Big fish in a little pond.

I don’t pay attention to basketball, but if you end up being correct on this, then why don’t we just bring in a coach for $250k rather than the $500k+ we’re currently tied to, and call it a day?

Someone young and hungry who wants to win and move up, similar to the Napier and Hud hiring strategy? Marlin is starting to remind me of the Bustle era, just comfortable with this being the final gig for as long as possible.

This reminds you of Bustle and football because Marlin is just like Bustle, nice guy, good enough coach to not be a total embarrassment, but no chance of excellence.

Would Brad Boyd coach for 200G? He's roughly the same age as the Nicholls coach, a little older.

So inexperienced and green right now, especially on offense IMO. In the first half there was no one to drive the bus on offense. Even if PJ was on the team, the PG spot was not going to be satisfactory and that's always going to really make it hard to get going most nights. The defensive issues have been discussed above and the lack of bodies will just be brutal all season. Also, even if the team came together immediately, there's just so many issues to be overcome to even compete for a top half finish this season.

Dou and Tirus Smith will be able to help protect the rim. Johnson has actually shown the ability to do so at times this year as well. He had 3 blocks against McNeese who was a bigger team. Problem is that Dou gets in foul trouble with his aggressiveness and Smith is not healthy.

In regards to talent, I think we have some young talent but what we are currently lacking is go to guys who can score. With everything going on with this program this year already, its going to be hard to see how we do much better than .500 or so. When people say they are apathetic, its hard to argue with them as to why.

I'm having a hard time justifying how the coaching staff could let the recruiting balance get this much off kilter. I can't.

Losing Wesley really hurts in this situation. True PG who could held distribute and facilitate. Mylik Wilson is going to have to step up and develop there quickly. He has the quickness to break defenses down and athleticism to finish at the rim. He also made some nice finds against McNeese.

In regards to defense, we need to play Temple more as it looks like he's possibly our best perimeter defender and good in transition.

We are going to have trouble with just about all of our OOC games. I saw TCU play and they are much longer and athletic. Detroit Mercy seems to be possibly a little bigger than us and will be an interesting game, especially with Justin Miller there.

Wilson is already a good point guard and should improve to great. He’s gonna get 30+ minutes a game. Whose going to replace him for those ten or less minutes, and when he’s got foul issues.

If Wilson is not available, it will be very rough for the Cajuns. Guy played 40 minutes the other night and will have to do that often. Hopefully he does not get freshman burn out halfway through the year.

Lots of issues went into the heavy roster turnover that occurred during the offseason. However, no one could have predicted the amount of injuries that would occur. Nor could you have predicted a medical issue would arise and a suspension would occur. Lots of challenges to be overcome as a result. Hopefully they can get back to having 10 players to practice soon. Agree that several upcoming games will be tough. Five of the eight players available tomorrow night will be participating in their first ever D1 road game and it is against a capable Big 12 foe. No idea what will happen but I would not be surprised if it is a rough game for the Cajuns.

Is anything known about the extent of Lowrey’s injury? I haven’t seen anything besides the report of him being on crutches at the game Saturday.
