So what's the word on smith? Will be available to play Saturday?
Also I am curious if he is a rim protector because it doesn't look like that is part of doudou's game
Hardy was suspended for violation of team rules
At one point late, we had 5 freshmen on the floor.
Wilson does the little things that make a difference. Under 4 in the first half, stole the ball and could have thrown it down possibly...had a defender chasing him. Smartly kept the ball in front of him and laid it up.
We'll be ok, just need to play games and work kinks out. If Hardy is done, that leaves only Aucoin as the sole senior I believe. We'll be officially young as a team as far as the first 8-9 players.
my biggest concern after watching tonights game is transition defense and defensive rotations. my hope is what i seen is a direct result of a mostly new team playing together for 1st time, including lots of freshmen, and they will greatly improve in these ares quickly.
I only caught the last 8 minutes when I got home. We look pretty athletic. Not sure who can fill the gant roll or a number of guys that collectively can.
With this group I would play aggresive defense and push the ball up the floor. Other than being bigger, and a better shooter, I cant tell you how much Wilson reminds me of Elfrid as a freshman. Really good perimiter defender, great hands, great court awareness and vision, high basketball IQ, and unselfish.
Smith is much more of a true inside player than Gueye. No idea when doctors will clear him. He looked fine on bench tonight. My main concern is too many turnovers but that was better in second half. Rebounding was something Cajuns dominated in second half after so so in first. I thought defense was fine all night and I expected that to be improved. Shooting was OK but still too many opportunities to finish at rim were missed. Johnson shoots better outside than near basket.
FT shooting was also good. Agree best player in Game was Wilson but all 5 freshman had their moments. Need to cut turnovers down against better competition is main takeaway.
They play good team defense but the rebounding is pretty bad. A lot of raw talent out there. Mylik Wilson will be a serious problem by the time he leaves. He will be the starting point regardless of Wesley’s injury.
Julian and Johnson are really nice looking freshmen as well, and with Dou Guey, they give us a really nice, if smallish, front court.
I thougnt every newcomer played at least pretty well.
If I were coaching this team, I would be really tempted to go all Nolan Richardson, and run the 40 minutes of hell system.
