Thread: ESPN Says Napier being considered for Ole Miss Job

Default ESPN Says Napier being considered for Ole Miss Job

    Just relaying the info:
"In addition to Memphis' Mike Norvell, Ole Miss probably would consider Louisiana-Lafayette's Billy Napier and UAB's Bill Clark. Helton spent a decade at Memphis and could fit here if USC fires him. Former North Carolina and Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora, currently an offensive analyst at Texas, might be a candidate at Ole Miss or even Mississippi State -- if Moorhead returns to the Northeast. Fedora still has many ties in the state.:

I realize it's ESPN, but he clearly states Ole Miss "would probably consider Billy Napier". He doesn't say my sources tell me he is being considered, or he is on a short list. This is another writer simply dropping names, speculative at best. Let's stop posting them unless there is more than speculation or name dropping.

This would be very quick. I'm mean the article says "Coaching carousel hypotheticals"

That’s pretty impressive for a coach with one west division title and barely over,500. May take a little more success to justify the hire to the boosters.

For him to get a real sniff, he has to get one or preferably two of the following three:

    - A win over a P5 opponent
    - Appear in a NYD bowl
    - A Top 25 ranking

I'd say at the very least a nice bowl win and a 10 win season. Maybe a conference Championship. Let's be realistic, Coach Napier is yet to accomplish the goals that he and the team have set for themselves.

Top recruiting class in the conference? Check and he did it quickly.
Won your division? Check. Did that in year 1.
    Won a Conference Championship? Nope
    Runs a respectable program? Absolutely.
    Go to a bowl? Yep.
    Win that bowl? Nope
    Beat a P5? No.
    Top 25 ranking? Not close.
    NYD bowl? Yeah. No.

To be honest, G5 coaches have jumped ship for less, but for a head SEC job, Napier might need more of a resume. Then again, Freeze and Malzahn jumped after only 1 year at stAte.

Disagree. 9+ Wins, a Bowl win and a top offense in the nation. See Freeze, Malzahn, Fedora, Fleck, etc.

Nape is 12-9. He'll be off this list if he doesnt win out.

fyi. Hud was 13-7 at this point.

List!!! There is no list. The original article/video headline this is linked to states: "Coaching carousel hypotheticals:"

ESPN did not mislead in this instance. What is misleading is the OP's headline here on RaginPagin.
