I have not, but I have spoken to a couple of Saints coaches and scouts who have done both and they say the pendulum has swung in favor of college work. The salaries have skyrocketed in the past 10 years while texting and the internet have allowed them to do a lot of their work from home or even the golf course as one coach told me.
Also, the NFL pushing back the draft has put even more weeks of work on the coaches schedule.
LSU has a coach who would be hard pressed to win 4 games a year in the NFL while he makes just as much as his NFL counterparts. Further proof of what I am saying is some young Saints assistant coach comes to LSU and now is viewed as an offensive genius. Moving forward I think you will see more NFL assistant coach’s and NFL castoffs tap into the runaway money train that is D1 football.
VO. You are correct that workers can make more than the manager they report to, but said worker does not make more than the CEO. I have no problem with coaches making more than the AD they report to, since that have a higher pressure job. I do have a problem with the coach and in some cases assistant coaches, making more than the University President. Many will not agree with me, but I think most universities including ours has lost site of what it’s mission is. I still like college football but I find myself watching less and less as it has turned into a Second rate NFL production.
We are probably one of the highest paying mid major in football.
They wouldn't, couldn't make more than everyone else if they weren't viewed as more important. They're the rainmakers. Rainmakers always get more. If it's determined that that individual isn't a rainmaker their contracts are bought up and a new potential rainmaker is hired.
It's been proven in virtually all universities, in America , a successful athletic program brings more capital, and students than not having one. That's the case in America at this time and the entire 20th century. What other reason that a small Catholic university in Indiana become so wealthy and world known.
You may not like it, athletic success a catalyst, but it's been proven over and over for over a century.
It’s the boosters that pay those high salaries. When 70-80k people wanna buy tickets to watch University presidents do their job they will make the money coaches do.
