According to The Daily Advertiser, the Swamp Thing will be no more:

Cajundome basketball floor will have new look for UL this season

The busy swamp look — somewhat similar to Oregon’s forest floor, a predecessor — had a black border with the Ragin’ Cajuns logo at centercourt. It featured the silhouette of a cypress swamp on Lake Martin.

The old court — liked by some but not all Cajun fans — was designed by Praters Hardwood Floors of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The new look has not yet been publicly unveiled, and its design has not been specifically disclosed by UL.

“We intended for the next reiteration of the floor to have a classic look to it,” said Patrick Crawford, UL’s assistant director of athletics for communications and digital strategy.

“The new resurfaced court,” Crawford added, “emphasizes the Ragin’ Cajuns brand, which we were most excited about.”

Personally, I'm somewhat sad to see it go. I thought it was a good effort. Not perfect, but distinctive.

I didn't like it at all.

I loved the concept, but it never should have gotten past the concept stage.

I liked the effort to tie it to our culture. However, fans who watched it on TV said it did not come across well at all on that medium. Perhaps that is a reason for the change. Wonder what will be done with the old floor.

According to the news article this is just a resurfacing. It will be the same floor.

    Thank God

    Great concept, poor execution

Not really. The article says it will be a "much-cleaner design" that "emphasizes the Ragin' Cajun brand." Not sure what it means, but it seems that the swamp design will be either gone or redone in a cleaner manner. It's cagey possibly because UL is being that way.

There needs to be more of a contrast if they keep the swamp motif.

    From the article

Cajundome workers began installation of the new-look court in recent days.

The floor itself is not new, but the design of it is.

“Most basketball courts have a handful of resurfacings in their lifespan,” UL spokesman Crawford said. “This was a latest resurfacing — a re-gloss.”

I saw that line, too. But that directly contradicts what's written toward the top:

I mean, I could be wrong, because the article is confusing. But I think that's what it says.

In any event, I guess we'll find out soon enough.
