Wrong.
Jackie Sherrill won a National Championship at Pitt, and was successful at Texas A&M prior to taking over at MSU. There can be no argument that he, Royal, Mullen and a couple of other coaches from earlier were very good coaches. But even guys that good have trouble recruiting players to Starkville.
Miss St is the epitome of a dead end gig. They only have winning records against 3 teams in the SEC in history (Kentucky, Vandy, A&M) - The dregs of the SEC at that.
Mullen went 69-46 at Miss St in 9 years. Take that away from their already abysmal overall record. Below .500
5th best job in the SEC West. Behind Bama, LSU, Auburn, and Texas A&M. That’s best case scenario. You could argue that Arkansas and Ole Miss are better jobs, long term.
That’s not even throwing the East into the mix. There is no long term stability or true opportunity for success.
Y’all all make very good points and I definitely can see where it could be labeled a dead end job. Obviously it’s not a good job and close to bad no matter what it pays. I guess when I see dead end then I see someone like Mulleb move on to a top 5 job, it’s hard to put the dead end job label on it
Ole miss is way more attractive than Mippi St.... the best job from the struggling SEC schools is Tennessee....You can win a national title at Tennessee
