Thread: ULM/UL

  1. UL Basketball Re: ULM/UL

I'm just gunna put my two cents in. I'm not going to enter the debate about whether Lee should stay or go. All I'm saying is that we should still be in Arkansas right now. The refs calling the game were HORRIBLE. I don't like to use that excuse, but in a one point game like this was, the unfairness off the calls cost us the game. Yes we should have scored more, we didn't, but had the calls been more fair we would have won it. Everybody there wearing vermillion and white saw it, us in the band, the cheerleaders and Ragin' Jazz, the AD, President Savoie and Dean Barry.

To make matters worse, ULM's band and fans acted classless. Booing us in the band when we played, calling us names and taunting us AFTER the game was over. They threw decorum out the door and acted like _______s. It left a sour impression of that school on all of us.

Anyway, that's my rant. Hopefully we hire the right coach next year, and get out of this slump.

Unless a coach is simply a bad person or has done something illegal or immoral, celebrating a firing of a coach is pretty classless.

It's fine to celebrate the hiring of a new coach.

But this is no cause for celebration.

Most everyone wanted Coach Lee to succeed. And, that's why we don't celebrate this.

The only thing I'm celebrating is that we have everyone on line to graduate within five years of their entrance to school.

    That's a cause for celebration.

He's not getting fired, he's just not getting an extension, so technically they aren't celebrating someone getting fired.

I never bought into all the GENERAL Lee talk, but I'm with Mr Walker....
    ....no cause for celebration.
There is a mix of feelings...disappointment and hopefulness.

Hammer, I take it you are not surprised at the reaction our fans at the game had to the ULM folks. I am sure they were thrilled at the way last night turned out. I would be shocked if they were able to do that two nights in a row. While it was disappointing last night, we still have won 6 of 9 against them since they started playing SBC basketball.

Knowing MetryCajun, I don't think he meant anything disrespectful to Coach Lee with his comments. He was just premature in the celebration of the new coach being hired.

We really need to find a way to separate ourselves from that institution. If we ever have an opportunity to join a conference that does not include them, we should jump at the chance. If I'm not mistaken, we promised to support their membership in the SBC if they would adopt the ULM name. I absolutely hate the fact that LSU was able to force us to recruit a school to adopt the UL-whatever name before we could become UL. I'm not so sure that ULM didn't get the best of us in that deal.

    Lighten up.
Our basketball program has been held hostage by a coach who made a mess of things and then got to keep his job because there was A SMALL CHANCE the situation could become worse. Lee's job is not to graduate people. His job is to educate people. What the kid chooses to do with that knowledge is up to them. By all accounts be did OK on the off the court stuff, but that is not why he was hired. I have never heard you do play by play of the guys going to class.
Lee was brought here to win games. Not only did he not win, but he played an almost unwatchable style of basketball, all the while making ridiculous claims like "we are Sweet 16 material".

I wish no harm to Lee and hope he can resume his career somewhere else, but to me his departure is a cause for celebration. I have loved UL/USL basketball since I was 10 and even went to games when I was a student at LSU or lived out of town. This year I watched one game and listened to parts of two others. I can honestly say I felt I missed nothing. You probably scoff at fans like me, but even when I was a kid I never went to the game wondering if Toney or Figaro were progressing on their course work...I was wondering how many points they would score or if we would win. Sadly, during Lee's tenure we mostly wondered if we would be entertained or how were going to blow a lead down the stretch.

I do think the time to dwell on Lee's incompetence should probably end soon. We will be getting a new coach and we all need to get behind him so we can have the kind of team we all want.

All the cheerleaders cheers are UL, never UL L, and anything we chant in the band is UL, as it should be. Well, ULM took it upon themselves to yell "L" after everything us or the cheerleaders said. The cheerleaders started a "WE are UL!" chant. That got ULM really, really, PO'd. It was funny to see them trying to validate themselves.

    Wait. They have fans? Really?

As the ol' Internet expression goes "Pics, or it didn't happen."

I absolutely refuse to believe that anyone other than the 4 or 5 masochists that post on their board are "fans" of that place.

Without the "home game" in Little Rock, ULM wouldn't meet the attendance requirements to remain FCS football status.
