That's what I figured. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Like I said I'm not a big basketball person but if we have a good team worth watching I'll be there. We need a good hire in the worst way.

I think you guys are summing it up well. Floyd isn't limited in his coaching assets to seeking out pure athletes and "letting it rip". Floyd actually knows how to completely organize and run a collegiate basketball program. He will seek out a balance of players that provide him with the best chance of competing, winning and going post season. UL could offer Floyd one of the best chances of regrouping and hitting some new career high points.

I'm curiously optimistically skeptical at his chances of ending up at UL.

Also I believe Floyd really wants to stay in Louisiana. If he is successful at UL he knows he has what a lifetime job with the Cajuns?

I think that Floyd, perhaps more than ANY of the other candidates on the preliminary list, knows the possibilities he would have here with facilities, ability to draw talent here and now the increased resources and acknowledgement by the administration that pay is essential into getting someone here and the willingness to pay attractively, as a great opportunity for him. I think that Billy Kennedy may be missing the boat on that as he's been moderate at best in his interests in the job initially. Granted, I know he can't say much to anything as he's preparing his team for Vanderbilt but there are people in his camp that suggest he may not be much of a candidate for the position and that may be a mistake on his part.

In defense of Kennedy he is returning 4 of 6 double figure scorers from a team that one 30 games. Also Murray is talking about a 4 year extension and significantly raising his salary. While, I"m sure he would listen.

Mick Cronin won a championship at Murray and ended up at Cincinnati

Mark Gottfried won at Murray and ended up at Alabama.

Billy Kennedy winning and ending up at Louisiana-Lafayette doesn't make sens financially. Even though we all know how good the job is.

If Kennedy is not coming here, its not going to be because he stayed at Murray. As you mentioned, his predecessors had success and got great jobs, he may not leave to come here but he's not going to sign a four year deal to stay at MSU. Not to mention, that even though they are willing to offer him something higher, they likely will not have the 300k that we are supposedly willing to offer the next coach, nor the facilities that we have here. It would be an even greater mistake to stay there IMO if he doesn't come here.

    Don't necessarily agree about that.

I would assume that Floyd is a millionaire many times over----pretty good money at UNO, Iowa, and damn good with the Bulls---well really good----not bad with the USCs and the buzzers------Probably lost his ass in the market tumble, but still in pretty good shape---No retirement from the Coaching schools as his time was limited, but still some bucks in the bank-----ERGO I think that UL is a pretty good fit---He is the HEAD Coach----He can win here----He could bring the place back and almost or completely fill the Dome---The proximity of parents and in-laws is a real plus---If he does get say 350 -400K per year with all the perks---it aint bad------I have heard he wants the job and that the NCAA deal is a NO deal!!!!!

He would be a good pickup for the Cajuns. I remember those days of losing to his teams. I was happy when he left for Idaho or Iowa state or where-ever it was that he went. We haven't had a Basketball Coach that coached his style of play for as long as I can remember. Not as exciting on offense, but tough defense and patience on the selection of shots. That's what I remember anyway....that was a long time ago and my memory has faded a bit.

It does if the administration is willing to pay close to what it would for Tim Floyd. From my sources have told me, they are indeed. Let's see if he comes in for an interview after Murray State is eliminated. But money will not be an issue, if he is our guy.

You don't have to. The fact is, he won't get the same money at Murray St. as he will here. The difference will not be that big but he will get better money here. The OVC conference is nothing to write home about and is a step down or two from the SBC as hard as that is to believe. While MSU is certainly going to work hard to offer him, if they offer him a 4 year deal like you say, why would he do that if his goal is to coach on the big stage? He's going to get some serious play this offseason as soon as his stint in the tourney is over. He will have some BCS schools calling him and he'll have a school like us. A school that will put up better money than he'll get offered where he is and he has ties and roots in LA. I don't see the logic in staying at MSU. That decision makes the least sense unless they are able to scrape up more money than we can offer. That, from many sources, is not expected to be a possibility.

By no means do you have to defend Kennedy. His pedigree is premium and we, as fans, should be thrilled if we can land either he or Floyd. However, that record may be a bit deceiving. That 30 win season has absolutely NO impressive wins as his most impressive wins may be over FIU and Morehouse St. That is not the resume of champions. If you look at his schedule, there is nothing that says...WOW.
