Thread: UL Basketball Coach ... NEXT

  1. #193

Default My Basketball coach search TOP 5

I have no influence whatsoever....I did no research either...hell I even
kept my season tickets and went to most of the games this year proving
I'm not as sharp as most of you guys

That being said these are my top 5 head coaching picks......

1.Coach K- Would love to hear J-Bird coax a nasally "Well you know Jay"
    out of him.

2.Dickie V- The hell with Mike Gottfried to get ESPN to call us UL.
I can hear it now "UL BAYBEEEEEE....RAGIN CAJUNS......BAYBEEEEE!!!!

3.Dale Brown-Why Butch Pierre? If we go with an LSU ex, Go with the
one that wants to stick it to the NCAA as much as us.

4.Kelvin Sampson....Offer him $100,000 and an Iphone with unlimited minutes

5.Tim Floyd- When he coached in the CajunDome there was always a large
    crowd

  2. Default Johnson: Discipline key for next UL coach

As the search for the next UL men's basketball coach continues, Tyren Johnson wants to make sure that Robert Lee's eventual replacement possesses at least one particular quality.

    Discipline.

"First off, I think the next coach should be a leader and make sure that everybody respects him," said Johnson, who as a senior this season was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year. "We need a coach who is going to let the players play the game but also keep it organized and make sure that they're playing hard all of the time.

And just what is wrong with Knight's way? There has NEVER been a hint of any NCAA problem around him, his kids graduate and nearly all love him after they finish playing, and his kids don't get in off the court trouble.

A lot of time and effort being spent on a pointless thread... about a candidate who isn't coming here and one who will not be offered.

    Let's focus.

You are right, no one will contact him, we can't afford him, he is not coming. But, at least we are thinking more of our University than being a second class mid major and looking for a coach to meet lesser goals.

Do you really want an ex assistant who tried to steal players? On another tread they are talking 4 or 5 coaches, but I have not seem anyone mention a top assistant from one of the top 20 schools, or a head coach for one of the top 40 or so schools that has had a proven record that might be let go due to a poor last couple years.

We can all speculate, but what is the committee thinking? Is what we are saying even being heard?

I for one would love to see this forum put together a list of our thoughts and recommendations, but remember in doing such means we will support and put more people in seatas the Dome. You who live in and around Lafayette should and can make your voices heard and then back it up.

I read a lot into these comments, perhaps to much. The word “Respect” jumps out at me.

Very often when a change is made they try to address perceived weaknesses in the last coach. Offensive coaches are followed by defensive coaches and vice versa.

It certainly isn't hard to see that lee did lack a respect from many of the players at times over his tenure. Sounds kind of funny coming from guys like Roberson saying that the next coach needs to be "strict" as he seems to be a player that doesn't respond well to that type of personality given his issues over years and that was one of the reasons he supposedly left UNLV.

So basically we need someone who can convince Gradnigo to hustle a little bit and not be so lazy.

Very little of what is posted here is seen by folks in the administration. In some cases, people who participate here talk to folks in the administration and pass on opinions. In other cases emails voicing those opinions are passed on. I believe most of those are read.

Hey, I've seen him hitting the weights at Red's for like two whole weeks already...We're already seeing progress and we don't have a coach....

If I knew he might want to coach again, I'd try to hire him in a heartbeat. _

Let's not forget that Floyd is a national name with national ties to recruiting. He's one of the best recruiters that we will be able to get and as mentioned, he's won everywhere. It's rediculous to not want him here, almost as rediculous as to even think that we COULD pay up to 750k for a basketball coach when some BCS schools won't pay that.
