_ You don't have to. The fact is, he won't get the same money at Murray St. as he will here. The difference will not be that big but he will get better money here. The OVC conference is nothing to write home about and is a step down or two from the SBC as hard as that is to believe. While MSU is certainly going to work hard to offer him, if they offer him a 4 year deal like you say, why would he do that if his goal is to coach on the big stage? He's going to get some serious play this offseason as soon as his stint in the tourney is over. He will have some BCS schools calling him and he'll have a school like us. A school that will put up better money than he'll get offered where he is and he has ties and roots in LA. I don't see the logic in staying at MSU. That decision makes the least sense unless they are able to scrape up more money than we can offer. That, from many sources, is not expected to be a possibility. _

So, if Kennedy doesn't get the big time job he wants this year, and decides to wait till next year rolls around, I think he figures that he will have a better shot to win at Murray than he would at UL on a one year basis.

He has the best job in his league hands down. UL is arguably the best job in the Sunbelt, however, it will take some time to rebuild.

I don't think you give enough credit to the talent we have returning and that this core of players shared a division championship just a couple of years ago. If you are talking strictly about wins and losses, you are right because they have shown that they play nobody whether its conference or OOC games. A bigtime school may like that you won 30 games but they may look at who you beat and say that might be a bit inflated. Also, if he's waiting for that big job, he's not going to sign a 4 year deal as you indicated.

The job here, IMO, is the most attractive job in the belt and now that we're willing to pay somebody handsomely for it, it's going to be a better job. He's got some talent coming back and if he's hired, he'd likely be able to bring in some nice players but I don't think this team needs to be rebuilt, it just needs a shot in the arm.

Big schools and Murray State do not go together in the same sentence. They cannot afford that and they are not on the level of a BCS or bigger mid-major school. He will not sign an extension of that magnitude unless he plans on staying there.
