With Butch Pierre as an assistant you would clean house in Louisiana with recruiting and Butch has many other contacts in the recruiting world recruiting high profile athletes for LSU and Okla St.

To make this work UL needs to think outside the box and offer Butch Pierre the next head coaching position when Tim Floyd decides to move on which one day he will. By doing this recruits will continue to want to sign on with UL and Butch Pierre because they know when Floyd leaves Pierre will still be their coach. This is the only way Pierre would come here as an assistance. This is kind of like what Texas is doing with Will Muschamp and what Florida St. did with Jimbo Fisher. _
Butch is the #2 guy at Ok St isn't he? Do you really think he would give that up to be the #2 here?

UL Basketball I am not really a basketball fan...

Also, this fellow is not a candidate, he certainly has no idea I am posting this stuff here, and he may not even be interested in college coaching due to the uncertain employment outlook, etc; but...

IMO, he would be the most prolific basketball coach in UL history if he took the job. In fact, I would wager that there would be a feaking movie made about it 10 years from now...

    Jonathan Pixley’s bio

•All-district, all-metro, and all-state performer at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge.
•All-freshmen and 3-time All-Conference (twice 1st team) selection at Samford University under former LSU head coach John Brady.
•Was NABC Regional All-American during senior season at Samford.
•Was the first player in Samford history to play on 4 winning teams.
•Finished collegiate career as Trans America Athletic Conference’s (now called the Atlantic Sun) all-time leader in 3-point field goals made.
•Also ranks 6th in conference history in scoring and 3rd in free throw percentage.
•While trying to join the professional ranks, Pixley sustained a career-ending knee injury while playing in the FILA Summer Pro League in Los Angeles, Ca. the summer after his senior year in college.
•Worked out for the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA prior to knee injury.

    Coaching Credentials

    High School

•Currently in his 9th season as head coach at the Dunham School in Baton Rouge.
    •His 2008-2009 team set a school record with 33 victories (33-4 record).
•Teams have made playoffs in 7 out of his 9 seasons as head coach.
•Current streak of 3 consecutive 20+ win seasons.
    •Over 160 wins in 9 seasons.
•Pixley was also the girls’ head coach for 2 years, leading the program to its first playoff victory in a decade in 2005.

    AAU

•With Pixley as the head coach, all three 17/u Red Storm teams have finished in top 4 in state and qualified for the National Championships in Orlando, Fla.
•Red Storm Basketball has been in existence since 2004.

No college coaching experience. I'm not saying that coaching AAU isn't a respectable gig but it doesn't qualify someone to jump directly to D1 basketball. So in other words, I say ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I knew Butch when I was a kid and from what I can remember he was a nice guy. I hope all goes well in his interview. As much as I like him and think he's an unbelievable recruiter, I still don't know if he's my first choice. I think my list is as follows:

    Tim Floyd
Billy Kennedy (but I don't think he's really an option)
    Dennis Felton
    Butch Pierre

Butch does move up on my list from time to time.

My list and your list does not count. Only one that does is kept on Reinhardt Drive. Butch is on the list but I don't think he as high on it as some of you believe.

Butch won't come as an assistant to Floyd as Floyd is not that old. Butch is also doing well financially as an assistant at OK State. Floyd may coach here for many years were he to get the job. As far as Boomer's contention that Floyd will be cleared, I believe that. However, I have no idea what the timing of the ruling will be. As far as the story that he will be the next coach, I am not sold on that yet. I truly believe there is no decision that has not been made as of yet. We will not wait for weeks to make a decision and the Floyd ruling may take longer than that.

True enough, he has no college coaching experience...and to be honest, I seriously doubt he would even consider the job.

If we need to be certain that a guy has failed at the DI level elsewhere before hiring him, then he is not qualified.

If you want a "Cinderella Story", you better find someone that can work with mice and pumpkins and turn them into champions.

I would venture to say that Jonathan Pixley has coached up more players from Louisiana that played in HS and/or made it to the college ranks as a result of his efforts and inspiration, male and female alike; than any other coach in Louisiana. Most of these players never even played for him on a team, many of them would never have even made the cut on their HS team without his influence. Some drive 2-3 hours just to work with him. He has an open gym on Saturdays where players from anywhere and everywhere come to learn from him, and they do. Its no free ride or group clinic, he actually plays against them, challenges them, works the Hell out of them, and they come back for more...

Did I mention integrity? What about leadership? Innovation? When they make the movie, it will star Tom Hanks, and will portray him as a "Horse Whisperer" of basketball players...

In fairness, I understand what you are up against, because you have no idea who he is. Someone told me about this guy about 5 years ago, so I went to see his open gym one Saturday morning. There was a gym full of players from schools all over the dang place. Private schools, public schools, it did not seem to matter, there were even 3 guys there from LSU. Not just students mind you, scholarship players from LSU.

It would be a HUGE loss to the community if he decided to coach in the college ranks, so I certainly hope he would not even consider the position; but if you are looking for that rare 1 in a million guy that can turn mice and pumpkins into championships, he is your man IMO!

I think Felton's UGA experience may have burned him out. Was he even coaching this season?
