Do you really want an ex assistant who tried to steal players? On another tread they are talking 4 or 5 coaches, but I have not seem anyone mention a top assistant from one of the top 20 schools, or a head coach for one of the top 40 or so schools that has had a proven record that might be let go due to a poor last couple years.

We can all speculate, but what is the committee thinking? Is what we are saying even being heard?

I for one would love to see this forum put together a list of our thoughts and recommendations, but remember in doing such means we will support and put more people in seatas the Dome. You who live in and around Lafayette should and can make your voices heard and then back it up. _
No assistants are being mentioned because the focus of this search and willingness to pay up to our limit in salary is because the administration has clearly stated in their coaching criteria that they want candidates to have head coaching experience, success, and understand what it takes and make it a priority to graduate players and bring in quality student athletes while complying with NCAA regulations. We should all be happy that they've gotten serious about this job and want to go after proven guys versus guys we hope can get the job done.

It's not ridiculous to want a better person who can do just as well as Floyd. Yes, I am conceding that Floyd could do a good job, if he is not cheating to get recruits, takes care that he gets his players to graduate and doesn't put himself in a position where he brings a bad light to himself & the university. But I am hoping for a better option than Floyd. And yes, there is a better option than Floyd.

This lack of respect is why I have a hard time giving Lee credit for the academic turn around. Why would these guys listen to him on academics but basically tune him out in basketball?

  4. Default TIM FLOYD

THE NAME TO TURN AROUND OUR BBALL PROBLEMS ----- WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN ---- 1-HE KNOWS WE CANNOT COME UP WITH SUPER CASH and ergo knows he will get less cash but maybe we can do housing, food, entertainment, and other tweaks for a little bonus ---- 2- the USC deal is no deal because he will be cleared ----- 3- money to get the 3-4 hundred K( in my opinion a steal)----What do we get???? A world wide name coach ----the greatest pre season ticket sale in our history ----- pack the Dome -- sellout for the first game and the largest season ticket sale ever!!!!!! Word is this will happen!!!!!!!

    Pretending you are right . . .

Am I wrong to think that Big Name coaches require higher paid assistants?

Would I be wrong to think it would be a good move for a Tim Floyd to court a Butch Pierre?

Sorry Turb, but you are dead wrong on the Pierre issue.

He doesn't fit my criteria for a head coach either, wasn't sure if some opposed him as an assistant as well.

Ideally if we could get Tim Floyd to be the head coach with Butch Pierre as the top assistant would be the best of both worlds. You would be getting a high profile head coach that will increase ticket sales and you are getting a coach that knows x's and o's. With Butch Pierre as an assistant you would clean house in Louisiana with recruiting and Butch has many other contacts in the recruiting world recruiting high profile athletes for LSU and Okla St.

To make this work UL needs to think outside the box and offer Butch Pierre the next head coaching position when Tim Floyd decides to move on which he may. By doing this recruits will continue to want to sign on with UL and Butch Pierre because they know when Floyd leaves Pierre will still be their coach. This is the only way Pierre would come here as an assistance. This is kind of like what Texas is doing with Will Muschamp and what Florida St. is doing with Jimbo Fisher.

    Default Butch Pierre Visit

Butch Pierre will be in town tomorrow to see his recruits in the Top 28. While in town, he'll meet with UL officials to interview for the coaching position.
