Thread: UL Basketball Coach ... NEXT

  1. Default Re: Season Ticket Value of the New Coach

I did NOT renew my season tickets for the 09-10 season, because I could NOT take it anymore. Lee had recruited so much talent and I felt that he could NOT coach. Maybe they were uncoachable Devas, I do not know. I do know enough about basketball to know when you need to change your defense to match the situation and/or keep the other team of balance. They had NO plays for breaking a press and often broke the simple rules of what Not to do when trying to break a press. Few or none that I could discern, plays for inbounding and short time left plays. The stand around offense, No help defense, No blocking out. AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

I look forward to ReNewing my longtime season tickets for 10-11, and if they win or don't win but play the game the way I learned to play it and the way it is supposed to be played then I will continue to RENEW!!

What I can say is when UL hired Jessie Evans, he came as the No. 2 candidate off of the BCA coaches watch list as an up and comer. He was on staff that won the National Championship that year, what did he do-he loaded the cupboard with talent-he had a 3 year plan-get in, win and get out to a higher program-didn't work out like he thought....when the Cajuns hired Glenn Cyprien, turns out to be a bad hire-he was also No 2 on the BCA coaches watch list--however within the coaching circles doesn't appear to have hurt him much-he came from OK State--then UL for 72 days--then Pro Scout--then Kentucky-currently he's at Memphis....appeared to be a very good hire, one we probably lost out on-but the right move was made at the time!

Today we are faced with who will it be??? My thoughts are a Big-Time Assistant as they have done with both of these hires--Robert was already here-worked under 2 head coaches in Marty and Jessie, sat in as interim Head coach for a couple months until Glenn was hired, was going to stay here with Cyp as an Assistant, he was to be retained...only to be given the head job himself. Here we sit with a huge amount of potential, a chance to breathe a breath of fresh air, with a huge amount of talent on the floor--LaRyan Gary, Courtney Wallace, Chris Grandigo, Raymone Andrews, Travis Bureau, its not like we don't have talent, any coach would jump at this...its our job to make the right decision. based on our last 3 hires i think the Administration will.

Im excited for the new adventure, whomever it may be, I only hope the new coach is ready to move on in the next 3-4 years cause that means we are doing fantastic, and we can become a springboard for new coaching talent.

If history repeats itself we can go and look at the No. 2 candidate off of the BCA coaches watch list as an up and comer. Where do we find this list?

The AD let a bad bad situation go a year more than he should. Tickts are artificially low just the returns who left will bring 300. New coach will bring 300 and my pick Kasper will bring another 75.

Screw the BCA. We have historically been one of the more progressive D1A programs both in terms of integration and in hiring of minority coaches. And did it ever get us any exposure from the BCA or any other media outlets that like to talk a good game about racial diversity? No. When we had Baldwin we didn't get any invite to be featured in the nationally televised BCA preseason college football game. And we didn't get any other positive press, TV appearances or scheduling advantage in any other sports. so screw the BCA and their lists. Lets just go out and get the best coach and let his race be irrelevant.

    End of rant.

    I was just kidding.

  8. Default Plum or Prune?

As the post-Robert Lee era begins at UL, the men's basketball program joins a select group of schools looking for new head coaches.

There were 12 schools with open positions or interim coaches as of Wednesday: Binghamton, Central Arkansas, Dartmouth, DePaul, East Carolina, Fordham, Gardner-Webb, Hawaii, UL, Penn, UNC Wilmington and Wagner.

    Louisiana Idea for New Coach

Just in case you read the Advertiser on line, I made the following comment to todays story on Lee:

"UL needs to get back to where we were in the early 70s. We were no.3 in the country our last year as a small college and then No. 8 and No. 7 the next two years, our first years as a major college.

If we are going to pay $750,000 or so, why not try and offer it to the best, Bobby Knight. Give him a 4-year contract, plus a TV and Radio show. Businesses such as Chart house and other major local corps. can also work with Bobby as a spokesman for them.

Talk about filling the Dome, getting recruits and playing a major schedule.

Do this and you will see other sports improve also."

    Your thoughts.

We will not pay 750k. Not even half that.

And Bobby Knight probably makes more announcing, and with less stress.

Plus I bet he'd be a more polarizing hire to the fan base than Tim Floyd.

I, for one, would love to see coach Knight crack a few heads as head coach here. So long as he isn't getting soft in his old age, he would at the least be entertaining.

Will it happen? My guess is not.

Where did you get the idea we were going to pay $750K? Unless you have over $400K per year to donate to RCAF it won't be happening. Come back down to reality, Trig.
