  1. Default Lady Cajuns Grab Two Wins On Saturday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Louisiana's Lady Cajuns softball team grabbed wins over Eastern Illinois and Southern Miss on the second day of the Razorback Invitational in Fayettteville, Ark. The No. 19 Cajuns downed the Panthers, 11-0, in five innings and beat the Golden Panthers, 7-3, at Bogle Park.
The Cajuns are now 13-6 on the season.

For the day, UL scattered 29 hits, scoring 18 runs. For the afternoon, Christi Orgeron was a force at the plate going 5-for-7 with three home runs and 12 RBI.

    Game One vs. Eastern Illinois
Louisiana proved to be too much for Eastern Illinois, scoring first in the third inning and never looked back en rout to an 11-0 win. The Cajuns combined for 15 hits on the afternoon, while Brittany Cuevas held the Panthers to just one hit.

Taryn Broussard gave the Cajuns a 1-0 lead with her third home run of the season in the third inning. Two more runs would score in the inning after Orgeron drove in Erikka Murphy and Vallie Gaspard with a one-out, base hit up the middle. Murphy and Gaspard both reached base on back-to-back singles.

Orgeron would continue to impress at the plate in the top of the fifth, recording her seventh hit of the weekend. Lana Bowers would reach base after taking first on a dropped third strike and Orgeron would move to third on the play. Both would score on a single to left field by Britni Soria that was fielded poorly by the Panthers.

Soria would plate the Cajuns' third run of the inning after an RBI-single by Gabriele Bridges. The Cajuns would put two more on base after a hit batsman and a single, before Murphy would score two more runs with a single up the middle.

With runners on first and second, Orgeron notched her second hit of the inning with a three-run blast to left field, giving the Cajuns an 11-0 lead.

The Panthers would finally record their lone hit in the bottom of the fifth.

With the one-hitter, Cuevas (7-2) picked up her third shutout of the season. She struck out five, while walking two.

Five Cajuns posted multi-hit games with Orgeron going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.

    Game Two vs. Southern Miss
The Cajuns were still hot to start the second game against Southern Miss, registering three runs in the first inning on five hits.

Murphy and Gaspard both would leadoff with singles. Both would score as Orgeron hit her second three-run home run of the afternoon.

Nerissa Myers would tack on another run in second inning. The speedy slapper would reach base on an error, steal second and move to third on a base hit by Murphy. She would then cross the plate after Orgeron grounded out to shortstop.

Southern Miss would cut into the Cajuns lead, scoring one run on two hits in the third inning.

But Louisiana's lead would increase to 5-1 after a bases-load, sacrifice fly by Orgeron.

USM's Megan Hill would hit a solo home run to draw the score, 5-2, in the top of the sixth inning. A two-out, RBI single would bring the Golden Eagles closer, but Donna Bourgeois would send the final out down swinging.

Orgeron would come through again for the Cajuns in the next inning. After Gaspard would reach on error, the sophomore slugger would send her second home run of the game over the left field fence.

Murphy and Gaspard also had big days, recording three hits each.

Bourgeios (6-4) would get the win after going all seven innings. She struck out four and forced USM into 14 groundouts.

The Cajuns will wrap up the Razorback Invitational tomorrow morning. The Cajuns will play Iowa State for the second time this season at 9:00 a.m. CT. Louisiana defeated the Cyclones earlier this season, 6-5 in eight innings, at the Houston Marriott Invitational.
