As stated before you can not over play the option, the other problem is you can not defend it with one person. Means your LB's and DB's need to swarm to the ball. On the outside pitch, your LB needs to play the QB and blow him up, while your DB's need to play the RB and make sure they tackle well, don't let them get yards after contact.

The biggest problem is the inside handoff. The Down Lineman must not get pushed around, if they do it will be a long night.

You can play 3 - 4 or 4-3, but if you go 4-3 your DE's need to be super athletic. More Pat Swilling type guys that can run with the QB or RB's.

Again, the key is that you have to dare them to throw the ball every now and then and do not get beat deep when they do.
Aren’t Dillon and Jones both quick and athletic. Maybe they are suited perfectly for this game ?

What you call a 3-4 look, has a similar function as a 5(2) Double Eagle. We ran that against the Ohio option and did very well. It's what Vic Eumont ran when he was DC at U(S)L .

Too bad Roberts doesn’t have friend who is a DC that played Georgia southern this year and could lend some insight, preferably one on a bye week.

If they are having O-line problems then I like your plan. Bring a linebacker on a run blitz. Attack the gap and blow up the QB before the play even gets started. If its Wertz then make him wish he had some bird poop. Hood Caine for the pain.

Who ever is the outside defender....the defender not blocked....he plays a holding tech on the QB......if QB goes upfield close and make tackle....if he pitches to a trailing back, the defender runs straight down the line to outside run support......the pitch man is the hypotenuse of a triangle and this allows the on line defender to catch him at the line.....70s defense to stop a 70s offense!!!

And he is probably still a little shell shocked.

I’m more for the isosceles triangle.

Well in that case, go nickel on DB’s? Preferably an extra safety?

Boomer, that was the best piece you ever wrote. Simply stated, I understood fully.

So with LBs, you want a Justin anderson or a Lance Kelley versus a Antwan Zander’s or Dominique Tovell?
