He was indeed the 5A player of the year in Mississippi in 2019. He had signed with IUPUI in the Early signing date last November. He had gone to an Academy for his junior year. That caused him to fly under the radar and limited his early offers. After having a strong senior season, bigger schools tried to get him to back out of his obligation to IUPUI. He thought he would have to sit out had he done so, therefore he declined those offers. Once the coach was let go, for an off the court issue, everyone on the team was allowed to enter the portal. Most on the team stayed but Temple is taking the opportunity to get back closer to his home. Apparently Coach Marlin knows his HS coach which worked to our advantage here. Our main competition once he entered the portal was DePaul. I have no idea what type of player he is. Only nugget I have is he has good strength for his size. That allows him to finish at the basket well for a point guard. We did have one scholarship remaining and we now have our allotment of 13 scholarship players. We have only one senior so theoretically we only have one scholarship to offer in November or April. Of course you never know if someone will decide not to return. It is rare nowadays at any school when all eligible players return.

Lots of people got some info at the game Saturday night. I was asked to keep a lid on it until he started school just in case Depaul was able to change his mind. I honored the request of my source yesterday but now that the player himself has made it official I figured no harm in letting you guys know some of the details of what went down. If this player ends up being a difference maker for us, we will simply say the basketball gods smiled upon us considering how he came to be a Cajun.

One more point to show fortunate we are in this situation. Had we started classes two weeks before Labor Day as normal, the semester would have been too far along for us to get the guy enrolled. I don’t know why we started only one week before Labor Day this year but doing so was another factor in signing him. Getting this guy was a gift. If he does not develop, little lost.

The team is loaded this year. NCAA or BUST, no excuses.

Josh Parrott called the signing "a steal."

So will he be here for this Fall semester of 2019?

Sounds like a great signing. I agree with Nation in that you can't have too many good guards, particularly at the SBC level. Hopefully he's a good perimeter shooter and can defend well.

Not trying to make excuses but as of now my high expectations are on the following season. This years team is loaded with lots of new faces and unproven talent with only one senior. Not saying it can’t happen this season but I think with 2 years to gel together 20-21 should be even better.

    I agree with this.
