UL’s known future opponents beyond 2021 are Group of Five members Eastern Michigan and Rice in 2022 and again in 2025, along with the newly announced Florida State game in 2022; Power 5-member Minnesota in 2023; Tulane of the Group of Five in 2024 and 2027; and Tulsa of the Group of Five in 2028.

“I think it’s a great strategy,” Napier said of the one UL is following for now.

“Then, as time goes, and this program gets to where I want it to be,” he added while in New Orleans for the Sun Belt Conference’s football Media Day in New Orleans, “I’m OK with playing a couple Power 5s each year.”
