its hard to play from the one yard line, and Im not sure that first punt didnt hit the endzone line which should have been a touchback. Im optimistic about the season and look forward to a great season. We went toe to toe with what will probably be the best team we see this season
Another season of Ragin’ Cajun football another game thread that billbeck blames the refs for a Cajun loss. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Hope you had a great summer, billbeck! Looking forward to your posts full of excuses in each and every game thread once again this season.

We kept it close in a loss, as my wife said "that's improvement." With that said, the turnovers hurt us but so did other things.

On defense we didn't seal the edge, missed lots of tackles, and Kylin Hill had a heck of a day running the football. It's hard to gauge where the secondary stands.
Give credit to both offensive lines they really came to play. We have a great trio of running backs that can win us football games, but we have to find some consistency in our passing game. We will have success in the Sunbelt against weaker opponents, however those that are equal or better will challenge us to throw the ball. We've seen teams stack the box against us and challenge us to throw the football. It isn't a surprise we like to run the football.

If Levi Lewis is the best quarterback on our roster, then it's going to be an interesting season. He appeared to be nervous during the 1st quarter and it was mentioned on tv that he wants to be a pocket passer. Levi has mobility and can be successful when he takes off and runs. I think he missed opportunities to do that today.

One wasn't his fault, the running back knocked the ball out of his hand, and the other was a heave on the last play of the game into the endzone. He had on his back one meaningful turnover. Now, it was VERY meaningful. It was a very poor decision. But it was on his first throw of the game. The rest of the way, he looked better. One bad decision in the season opener isn't the end of the world.

Again, I don't want to make it sound like I'm pumping sunshine. I don't know if he's the answer. I had a problem with a few other things he did. Not getting out of bounds on his last scramble, for example. But against an SEC team, I'm willing to give him another game before pulling the plug. He - and our entire passing game - has to look a LOT better vs. Liberty. But his play wasn't the main reason we lost today, sorry.

That timid backwards throw on 4th and 1 was pretty bad. Haven't seen that in the dome since Aaron Brooks. But I blame bonehead play calling more than anything on that play.

In Jake Delhomme's interview with Kevon Wilson, he said; "You cannot win without a good quarterback."

He needs to work on his understanding of gap timing.

On one play he was on one side of the field and had two clear throwing options. A throw to the near hash marks with a defender 2-yards away. A throw all the way across the field with a defender 10-yards away.

The defender 10-yards away was closer to the play than the defender 2-yards away.

LL should not have chosen the receiver all the way across the field.

He needs to work on his understanding of gap timing.

These are things that experience will fix.

I think that's the difference. Most games against the big guys in the last several years have been embarrassing. The Cajuns did not embarrass us this time.

We only played one QB because Jaive was hobbling around the sidelines and obviously in no condition to play. I would have played one of the true freshmen, but I certainly understand why Napier did not do that.

No reported injury, any kind of brace or boot you could see?

We have a well coached team. I didn’t see many offsides, holds, miffed handoffs etc...thought we played a pretty clean game against a very tough opponent.

Each team had just 5 penalties.
The year-over-year strides this team has made are tremendous.

    Yesterdays game was winnable.
